Yes. The boxes will need steam to activate and run.
What's wrong with you guys? I am very very disappointed by Paradox...another sale lost...and probably a loyal customer for more than 10 years if you stick to this for all your future games.

We go where you guys go.. Since almost all of you buy at steam nowadays, we have to support that first.
I don't even know how to use Steam.
You are saying that steam is spying on you, and that making sequels is bad. Well most people dont agree with at least one of those statements. Probably both.
Did you not read Johan's comment about five posts above your own?
I don't care if you're a paranoid schizo, but please don't bring you're accusations here.
Its too bad you thought I was being snarky, I was pointing out that Johan had actually said that there will likely be a Steam free version available. I guess you want more than a "likely", but that may not even be known to Johan at this point. This site has certainly seen a vocal backlash against Steam this last month, that will probably benefit the likelihood of a non Steam version.@ Jas you also don't know that it means EXACTLY that. Until Johan or another higher up says so then I won't believe it. Plus you don't know why I use Capitalization and it's NEVER RANDOM. I always use it EXACTLY where and WHEN I want to. So please take your "trolling" elsewhere. I'm making a point you two are just trolling and attempting to cause some flaming war.
I don't have a single steam game installed because i am not into mainstream games (which is why i got into Europa Universalis in the first place). I have no problem if you sale through steam but a boxed edition or gamersgate edition shouldn't require steam imho.

I read Johan's comment. I'll give you rational (heh, more or less) response as to why I'm very, very skeptical.
It wasn't even close to being a promise- it has more wiggle room than a baby on a 747. The actually promised in fairly similar style non-Steam version of Magicka never eventuated, nor have the promised (3 months ago) steam keys for KA and Lionheart for those who bought the non-steam versions and have seen their support summarily terminated. We've also had a year of "we don't have a preferred digital vendor; hey, we're bundling steam with retail and selected products; wow, Steam's really popular with our customers now but I'm sure that's totally unrelated to our bundling it with our products and that totally doesn't mean we prefer Steam, after all we also, er, um, bundled Gamersgate/D2D/Impulse's stores with, uh, yeah, hmm" etc.
It'd be nice if there is a non-steam ck2, but I wouldn't advise anyone to hold their breath. They were still saying there'd be a non-steam version of Magicka with pretty much zero equivocation a day (?) prior to its release.
Long story short Paradox hasn't exactly been great about fulfilling actual promises lately, there's little reason to Believe a nebulously worded statement of possible intent/ likelihood, no matter the source.
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/11/11/steam-totally-dominates-witcher-2-sales/Witcher2 Sales said:Steam has so far delivered 195,000 copies of the game, CDP announced today, compared to 45,000 copies from all the other distribution services combined. 35,000 of the later were from CDP’s own Good Old Games, leaving the likes of Direct2Drive, Impulse and GamersGate fighting for the relative scraps of the remaining 10,000 sales.

Id like to hear the justification to support the very small minority of paradox sales
What a thread. Johan posted that "The boxes will need steam to activate and run." Some Paradox customers objected to Steam and were called trolls or were referred to as being paranoid which is typical of the fanboys.

But if you dont like steam thats cool
Not a PI title. It also shows that Steam sales are actually minuscule compared to boxed sales (for The Witcher 2 anyway).

Please do Johan. Having a diversity in your distribution channels must be a good thing for the company. Even if GG customers have dropped in size, there must be enough of us to make it worth keeping GG as a major distributor.I think its a high probability of a gg version as well... Just need some technical issues solved there first.
