We go where you guys go.. Since almost all of you buy at steam nowadays, we have to support that first.

I don't have a single steam game installed because i am not into mainstream games (which is why i got into Europa Universalis in the first place). I have no problem if you sale through steam but a boxed edition or gamersgate edition shouldn't require steam imho.

You are saying that steam is spying on you, and that making sequels is bad. Well most people dont agree with at least one of those statements. Probably both.

You don't know what "MOST" people think or do so stop acting like you speak for the WORLD. Try to stand on "your own two feet" for a change in life instead of trying to THINK the WORLD stands for you. lol

@ Jas you also don't know that it means EXACTLY that. Until Johan or another higher up says so then I won't believe it. Plus you don't know why I use Capitalization and it's NEVER RANDOM. I always use it EXACTLY where and WHEN I want to. So please take your "trolling" elsewhere. I'm making a point you two are just trolling and attempting to cause some flaming war.

Did you not read Johan's comment about five posts above your own?

I don't care if you're a paranoid schizo, but please don't bring you're accusations here.

I read Johan's comment. I'll give you rational (heh, more or less) response as to why I'm very, very skeptical.

It wasn't even close to being a promise- it has more wiggle room than a baby on a 747. The actually promised in fairly similar style non-Steam version of Magicka never eventuated, nor have the promised (3 months ago) steam keys for KA and Lionheart for those who bought the non-steam versions and have seen their support summarily terminated. We've also had a year of "we don't have a preferred digital vendor; hey, we're bundling steam with retail and selected products; wow, Steam's really popular with our customers now but I'm sure that's totally unrelated to our bundling it with our products and that totally doesn't mean we prefer Steam, after all we also, er, um, bundled Gamersgate/D2D/Impulse's stores with, uh, yeah, hmm" etc.

It'd be nice if there is a non-steam ck2, but I wouldn't advise anyone to hold their breath. They were still saying there'd be a non-steam version of Magicka with pretty much zero equivocation a day (?) prior to its release.

Long story short Paradox hasn't exactly been great about fulfilling actual promises lately, there's little reason to Believe a nebulously worded statement of possible intent/ likelihood, no matter the source.

Its too bad you thought I was being snarky, I was pointing out that Johan had actually said that there will likely be a Steam free version available. I guess you want more than a "likely", but that may not even be known to Johan at this point. This site has certainly seen a vocal backlash against Steam this last month, that will probably benefit the likelihood of a non Steam version.

If you let a little thing like steam end your relationship with Paradox or whether or not you'll buy a great game that's your loss and not theirs. Love or hate steam, the trend now is for that kind of distribution. Not only is it cheaper and safer for distributers/publishers/developers but it also helps them protect their property and make it easier to sell to multiple markets across countries. It's called cloud computing and you'll need to get used to it if you're going to continue using technology because that's the way everything is going.

Captbly,
Have to agree with others that your style of writing does not benefit the message you are trying to push through. It gives you a certain "tone" that does not help at all. Making huge claims about programs spying and even bigger assumptions regarding Paradox's motives doesn't convince me, whether you use capital letters or not.

I have yet to see any official word that Gamers Gate versions will have to use Steam activation, yet you present it as a fact. Perhaps we would all be better off not jumping to conclusions. Paradox has always been a great company when it comes to listening to their customers, and I do not expect them to stop that.

You can't expect him to make a promise he's not sure he can keep. You'd be even more angry if that happened. It seems to me that one just needs to use common sense to realize that they aren't at a point yet where they can make solid statements about release because it's months away and their still in development. Maybe it's because I come from a similar background that I think it's common sense, but there you go.

I couldn't care less about vendor/format. If Paradox decided that their preferred method of release is going to be floppy disks, I'd buy the game that way. I just want to know which method is going to see better support. And it sounds like Steam is the one. Hopefully there will be an official announcement about Paradox's plans for beta patches etc. between now and the release date.

Witcher2 Sales said:
Steam has so far delivered 195,000 copies of the game, CDP announced today, compared to 45,000 copies from all the other distribution services combined. 35,000 of the later were from CDP’s own Good Old Games, leaving the likes of Direct2Drive, Impulse and GamersGate fighting for the relative scraps of the remaining 10,000 sales.

wat.

I'd just like to point out that that isn't a Paradox game and that portals like Gamersgate are frequently a more common thing among people here than for other games for various reasons, like being able to choose what and how much you want installed (which supposedly won't be an issue with CK2). I myself own EU3 and expansions on both Gamersgate and Steam, having moved over to Gamersgate from Steam. I am not anti-Steam, though, as having 92 games on my account probably shows.

What a thread. Johan posted that "The boxes will need steam to activate and run." Some Paradox customers objected to Steam and were called trolls or were referred to as being paranoid which is typical of the fanboys.

Did you read his post? The guy was making a rant that could only be contrived by a raving lunatic. He totally spazzed out.

I agree, Steam is crap and I'd rather not use it. Using Steam will also force not just the customers, but Paradox into playing to Steams rules.

Regardless, I like PI and if they think it's the best decision I will support them on it. Unfortunately they will find that this will hit badly on companies like Gamersgate, which is also Swedish and has a shared past with PI. I would have thought they'd like to weaken the hand of Steam, as a monopoly works in nobodies favour, but in the end they will do whats best for their company now.

However, I at no point believe that Steam is specifically spying on me or is trying to collect information for nefarious purposes. The earlier suggestions (and statements) were stupid and out of control. If it was not a troll, then I feel really sorry for the poster who made it, as he will likely end up having to take large doses of anti-psychotics to ward of paranoid fits.

Not a PI title. It also shows that Steam sales are actually minuscule compared to boxed sales (for The Witcher 2 anyway).

Actually, thats not a bad example..

For us the box sales are far less than digital.. We dont even have box sales in most territories anymore.

A quick look at the Sengoku sales tells us that the curve we've seen in the last three years have continued dramatically..

Paradox fans are now buying games from steam. I think that about 84% was sold through steam the first month. A few years ago, gamersgate had a large majority of the digital sales for us.. But box people and.a chunk of those have moved to steam...

I think its a high probability of a gg version as well... Just need some technical issues solved there first.

Please do Johan. Having a diversity in your distribution channels must be a good thing for the company. Even if GG customers have dropped in size, there must be enough of us to make it worth keeping GG as a major distributor.

As a sidenote, I didn't buy Senguko myself, and I would think many potential CKII customers fall into that category. I have no real interest in the Senguko setting, but furthermore the game being "a lite CKII" didn't appeal to me. I'll make you a promise though. The same day Paradox announce they can sort out a fully supported GG-version of CKII, I will buy Sengoku just to pump up its GG-statistics! :)
