Yes. The boxes will need steam to activate and run.
Ah crap. I was looking forward to this game too.

don't think anyone has been bashing the people behind steam?
Would we benefit from pre-orders on Steam?
Perhaps not on this thread, but I've seen more vitriol about steam than any other on-line shop ever.
Any word if beta patches are only available for steam users?
You know, the people who run steam are just ordinary people. They're not evil, just successful. Why such a big deal?
Seeing as Johan has been looking at this thread, any chance of a hint on a pre-order date?
It's not the people that run steam that worries most it's the future of Steam and the future of their games they bought through them should something happen to Steam in the future. Now you may not care to play games that are 10-20 years old but many of us do. In fact I still play games nearly 30 years old from the Commodore 64 days because I can and because I have the game disks and material in MY POSSESSION and backed up locally.
The other thing is Steam takes away our ability to SELL USED GAMES, there is no other medium that I can think of that we can buy that we can't sell down the road if we so choose. Music, Books, hardware everything but silly software and games. These flippin developers/publishers of computer games think their stuff is priceless and that's pretty ridiculous compared to every other medium out there. This is also why I will not buy anymore gaming software brand new or upon release. If they can't allow me the freedom to sell my games after I'm done with them then I can't be taxed to help support them.
