CK2 Papacy and Religion

Hello All,

I've been playing the game on and off for the past few years. Just recently i bought a whole bunch of DLC and decided to get back into it. Well suffice to say i am having an amazing time!!!

Couple questions though...
Quick Backround - I am the King of Leon, have been able to conquer some of Iberia from the Moors, however I my expansion was stunted by a cruel ruler whom murdered and tortured anyone who stood against him in his realm (me tehee, was so fun).

Anyway, i was able to marry a powerful Duchess in Italy who had no heirs, the new King was able to inherit her lands in Italy and now I am very powerful.

I have been trying to figure out this college of cardinals thing, i have a bunch of Cardinals there and one is even next in line for pope! My question.... HOW DO I USE HIM!?

I actually conquered Rome and I am waiting for the current Pope to die so i can restore the Papacy when my bishop takes the Pope spot. What i want to do with my new Pope is declare a holy war for Andalusia and conquer another good chunk of Iberia. Please help in regards to religion. I am kind of confused.


psstt... Is it worth getting all the DLC? Besides sunset invasion?

When a Cardinal of you realm becomes pope he will like you more as a pope when you funded his campaign.
If you restore the papacy the pope gets Rome and becomes independent from you, no matter of your rank. When you like to have the pope as you vassal you need to be Emperor rank, make an Anti-pope and press is claim on the papacy! When the pope is your vassal he will grant you every wish no matter if he likes you.

For a normal holy war you don't need the pope. I suspect you talking from a crusade.
