CK2 not loading. can't even get to the launch screen

I can't even get to the launch screen. Not on steam, not directly clicking on the ck2.exe on my computer.
A while ago, I had CK2 working, but it hasn't worked for months. (I've been too busy to try and fix it until now)
I added some DLC, (charlemagne, the republic, and some hymns) right before it failed, I figured this might be the issue, but I have tried running it without the DLC, and no luck.
I have also upgraded to windows 10 since then.

I have searched the forums and tried many of the steps recommended to others.
1) uninstalled and removed local files in steamapps/common (since upgrading to windows 10) and then reinstalled.
2) downloaded and installed from the recommended C++ links and DXsetup links
3) tried to launch from the local .exe file in steamapps/common/crusader kings II, including the 640 x 480 option from right clicking the icon.
None of this seemed to help.


I have uploaded a dxdiag file taken a moment ago, as per site instructions.

I would really like some help!

Try setting both steam.exe and ck2.exe to run as the Windows Admin user.I

Also, you ought to switch to 64bit Windows 10 if you can.

I tried setting both steam and ckii to run as admin by right clicking the application, and then launching but ckii still failed to load. Any other ideas?

I forgot to mention above that in the steam window it flashes the word, "syncing" for 1/2 a second next to ckii in the library's list of my installed games; not sure if that might be relevant.

I just noticed you mentioned ck2.exe . But there is no such file in current versions, just ck2game.exe . Are you playing an old version by any chance?

I notice you don't mention the user files.

Please do a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

The local Documents/Paradox/CK2 files somehow got hidden in Windows. I found them using search, unhid them, and deleted the local content. After I reinstalled, the game loaded properly. Thanks!
