Well, hisorically, Nestorian Christianity made substantial inroads in China, so... anything's possible! China has always been a great market for foreign religious ideas -- Buddhism, Manichaeism, Christianity, Islam; even Judaism thrived there for many centuries.Shomehow I think people would intentionally avoid that...
The extensive interconnexions that existed in the mediaeval world between east and west, especially in a game that includes Silk Roads and the Turko-Mongol migrations, positively demands a China-centric expansion in the future. And after that, to complete the old world trading networks, we need the Indian Ocean and the Sahel fleshed out. The trans-Saharan trade routes were immensely profitable in the middle ages, and the Indian Ocean trade linked Indonesia, South Asia, East Africa, and the Middle East, moving ideas (and religions) and luxury goods all over the Afro-Eurasian world. Consider when and how Islam and Hinduism got to South-East Asia! (Though I really would like to see Sufi Islam developed before we address Islam's expansion through South and South-East Asia, since it was a pivotal element in the process.) All of these expansion areas would result in a much more realistic game world, in addition to allowing for overtly ahistorical fun.
