CK2 Launcher Not Responding when launching from Steam

just deleted the Paradox Interactive folder in its entirety

I need you to delete BOTH CK2 directories. There's one under the Steam steamapps/common/ directory, and a second one under MyDocuments - it's vital you delete both before you re-install.

Also then right-click on ck2.exe and ck2game.exe and set them to run as the Admin user, and to disable desktop composition.

Yeah I did delete both directories, the one in my documents and the one in steam and then re-installed it. How do I disable desktop composition?

You right click on ck2.exe, click on properties and go to the compatibility tab. Then you select the checkbox in front of 'disable desktop composition'.

It was already unchecked when I opened it up on the ck2.exe and also on the ck2game.exe

We want the checkboxes selected, which means "yes I wish to disable this option".

yeah I've just done it for both the ck2game.exe and also on the ck2.exe

Please temporary disable your AVG and any other anti-malware, then directly start ck2.exe with admin rights (right-click on file and select the option to run as administrator).

I disabled everything in AVG and tried to run the launcher as admin but it still appears as the same as before and when I run the ck2.exe with the -forcedlc as admin it still tells me I don't have old gods installed and in their I cant go back further than 1066 which tells me that my game doesnt recognise that I have it installed or any of the other dlc I bought for that matter

Does the launcher always crash even if you don't select a DLC?
If not, is it possible to start with just one DLC selected?

yeah if I untick all of the dlc's and try to hit the register button nothing happens and if I hit the start CK2 button with all the dlcs unticked the launcher just crashes and goes into not responding but all the while the launcher is still appearing like it was before where its mostly white space

Yeah I then tried just selecting the old gods and deselecting everything else and again tried the register but nothing happened and then tried the Start CK2 button and again the launcher is telling me it's not responding like it has done in the past

AFAIR the Paradox launchers use components from the Microsoft Internet Exploder. Which version of the IE are you using on your computer?
Maybe there's a misconfiguration or a permission issue preventing the launcher from access to IE components.

Not so far as I know. They do use .NET frameworks though.

I currently have IE 10 on my PC but I use Chrome

You could try to uninstall the IE10, reboot, run Windowsupdate to search for updates, de-select IE10 if offered again, dl and install updates. After reboot check the launcher again.

so if it offers for me to install IE10 again, don't? and just download updates for IE9?

what do you suggest I do? Because I loaded up a base game and it said "Welcome to the old gods" so I don't know what that means

That means the latest DLC is active. In the main game menu there's a row of icons on the left, IIRC about 2.3 of the way down the page, one for each of the 5 major DLCs. Do you see those?

the only thing at the side for single player I'm seeing is: stamford bridge, william the conqueror, the alexiad, the third crusade, the latin empire, the mongols, rise of the hansa and the hundred years war. nothing else there from what I can see
