CK2 for windows 8...possible to play?

title says it all. Every time i try to start ck2 on windows 8, nothing will happen. No idea what's going on, and anything i find about it is from like 2012. does anyone know how to make this game work with silly windows 8?

I'm not a Windows 8 user myself but according to a CK2 steam discussion I read recently, a recent patch has caused compatibility issues with Windows 8.1. If you've not already done so, you may wish to try running the game in compatibility mode by browsing to "X:\PathToSteam\SteamApps\common\Crusader Kings II\", right clicking on "CK2game.exe" & clicking properties, clicking the compatibility tab and then finally selecting an older version of windows. Windows 7 (or 7 with a service pack) should be fine. Screenshot Here

Of course it works under Win8. Win7 and 8.1 too, FTR.

With ANY version of Windows there may be missing Microsoft modules:
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii\DX\ and run dxsetup.exe
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii\ and run vcredist.exe

If that doesn't help, please try installing ALL of these Microsoft modules:

First: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328

Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

(If that doesn't do anything then http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 )

Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.
