You do understand that pre-order DLC/bonuses are the bonus for buying the game full price, right? There's a fairly big 2nd hand games market that gives £0 to publishers/devs, so there's a move to reward people who buy new copies.
it's the wording. DLC has a bad connotations of being "fluff" or "power-up" stuff that has a disproporitate pricepoint cost; if you bought all the content seperatly that would make up a typical expansion, people tend to pay 2x-5x as much. Now I understand that one might need to raise the prices indivisually (as less people will likely buy everything and you need to make more money that way), but people will think the DLC will be overpriced for its content. This isn't your fault entirely; DLC has become a dirty word because of the way its been used by other companies. Its funny.. We did small downloadable expansions long before dlc was a common word.
Armageddon is a great example of what we aim for.
Huh? Where have they said preorder = no beta testing opportunity?Excluding people that pre-order from beta testing (is this confirmed?)

In all their comments about pre-ordering, I've never seen them mention beta testing as one of the perks.
Note that I listed this as something I'm "not totally sure of but don't necessarily find to be malevolent."The only problem is your assumption that "normally" beta testing comes standard with pre-orders. I know some companies do that, but Paradox doesn't (and probably never will), and for good reason.
Note that I listed this as something I'm "not totally sure of but don't necessarily find to be malevolent."If you're talking about changing business as usual, and those changes include aspiring for higher quality and rewarding early adopters, then beta testing for those that pre-order should be under consideration. I don't mean to imply that it's unequivocally a good idea.
There were some insinuations as such elsewhere in this thread, and Paradox didn't dispute them. In all their comments about pre-ordering, I've never seen them mention beta testing as one of the perks. This leaves me with the impression that those selected for beta testing last month are the only ones that get their hands on it. I hope I'm wrong. If I'm not, then I'd encourage the beta testers to be incredibly tough on the game. Sycophancy makes the devs feel better...but only in the short term. They'll thank you for being critical in the long run.
Good thing no one ever said that.Saying you can never take part in a beta test for their games if you pre order them seems like a really strange way to attract more pre-orders.
please just tell me this is going to be on steam, im sick of gamersgate and is buggy'ness. i made the mistake of prerdering sengku on gamersgate, and then on release steam had it for 30% off, out of blue, this isnt going to happen to CKII is it? i love you guys and everything but i felt stabbed in my wallet and it was probably stated somewhere, but not enough!
