CK2.exe has stopped working with windows 8 on steam

I bought crusader kings 2 about a month ago now and ive had the reoccurring issue of when i try and run the launcher it don't open but instead says CK2.exe has stopped working windows is trying find a solution and then closes im running it on windows 8 and i have up to date c++, .NET systems and directX 11 i have managed to run the game via the files but i cannot patch or activate any of the dlc's for the game.

On what platform do you have the game, Steam or Gamersgate?

Could you get the logs and the DxDiag?

How to get a DxDiag of your system:

• Open your Start menu
• Type "dxdiag" in the search field (without quotes)
• Open the dxdiag program
• A window called "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" should pop up now
• At the bottom right-hand side, click on "Save all information"
• Save it to a place where you can find it easily, for example your desktop
• Open the file and copy and paste the text between [NOPARSE]
  [/NOPARSE] tags.

How to get the game logs:

• Go to '..\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\'
• Open settings.txt, copy and paste the entire text between [NOPARSE]
  [/NOPARSE] tags
• Go to '..\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\logs\'
• Open errors.log, copy and paste the entire text between [NOPARSE]
  [/NOPARSE] tags
• Open system.log, copy and paste the entire text between [NOPARSE]
  [/NOPARSE] tags
• Open setup.log, search for the line with "checksum", copy and paste this entire line into your next reply

Also, have you perhaps changed your monitor since it last ran OK? If so try deleting or renaming settings.txt from your MyDocuments CK2 directory.
