Sooo - after testing the converter again, it seems like, despite some ROI things being fixed, it's even more broken than before. I'm listing a few issues that I noticed:

1) Jain Indian countries get generic ideas instead of culture-based ones.
2) Suebi, Samoyed, and Afghan are missing localisation - they shown as suebi, samoyed and afghan. Baloch should convert to Baluchi (baluchi) instead of becoming a new culture.
3) The tech groups distribution seems to be completely arbitrary now. Some Christian countries end up as Muslim, Indian countries end up as Western and so forth.
4) All heresies are now converted as such - which is an improvement in my opionion - but Nestorian still converts to Orthodox.
5) Culture-based ideas aren't distributed to heresies or Pagans. For example: Catholic Russians may get Russian Ideas, Orthodox Russians get Russian Ideas. Cathar or Bogomilist Russians don't. Same seems to applies to country-specific ideas. A Bogomilist Jerusalem gets National Ideas despite having its own specific ideas in the files.
6) The Arab cultures don't get culture-based ideas on conversion. Berber should get Berber Ideas while Bedouin/Levantine should get Arabic Ideas. Also, Andalusian should probably either get Granadan or Arabic Ideas.
7) CK2-only Altaic cultures are now converted to Arabic, but should be either in the Oghuz group or be divided between Oghuz and Tartar.
8) Tribal governments are converted as Feudal Monarchies.
9) Kurdish is listed thrice in the Iranian group.
10) Visigothic is converted into the Germanic group instead of Iberian (WAD?)
11) Kirghiz, Egyptian and Levantine are converted as custom-defined cultures instead of their EU4 counter-parts (Kyrgyz, Egyptian, Syrian).
12) Some countries are still not converted to their EU4 equivalent (examples: Köln, Songhay, Punjab).
13) In converted saves Ajuuran has Ottoman Ideas.
14) Leader/ruler names are assigned to countries based on dynasty history. If, for example, the same dynasty has a French, a Greek and a Russian branch ruling over three different kingdoms, all three of these kingdoms get all the names used within this dynasty - resulting in French-named rulers in Russia and so forth.
15) Alan is still in the Byzantine culture group, but it should be in the Caucasian one.
16) There are at least 4 provinces owned by countries from the 1444 standard start date: Braslaw and Polotsk (Lithuania), Wystruc (Teutonic Order) and Kahketi (Georgia).
17) All of the history/diplomacy files are blanked, causing the Japanese Daimyos to be independent etc.
18) Sometimes the HRE evaporates at the start of a converted game.

And yes, I know that there's a mod that improves the converter. But it's still a product we paid for, so the least one can do is to ask, if maybe some of these issues can be fixed - especially since some of them exist since the converter's been released. :)
If I missed anything, feel free to tell me about it, so I can add it to the list.

Issues that don't exist in the 2.2.1.1 beta patch:
- Altaic cultures are still converted as Turko-Semitic instead of Altaic. I understand why Turkish is converted as such - they're Turko-Semitic in EU4 - but Khazars, Cumans and so so forth should go into the same group as the other non-Turkish Turkic cultures -> Altaic.
- Converting saves with self-created kingdoms causes the the game to crash.
- Idea groups can be chosen, but the ideas can't be unlocked.
- Pictish. Frisian and the Proto-Russian cultures are completely missing.

It's right after a DLC+patch that work only halfway. Do you REALLY believe they had the time to update the converter?

Not saying it's right, but please, be realistic. Expecting the converter to be adapted to the DLC at release is like expecting Paradox to release a DLC that doesn't break the game. (said in a completely scornful way towards Paradox.)

On technology: it has been /completely/ overhauled, and now only depends on the average tech in the realm, with "Western" being the median across the world. As such, converting early makes for weird stuff.

Heresies actually get converted to a distinct religion and don't just get folded back into the parent? That's new to me, and a nice step forward.

Still, as usual the converter is a barely functional shadow of what it could actually be. I can imagine any serious work is not going to take place until AoW is released or near release, since it will have to be dramatically overhauled to take into account all the new provinces.

Honestly, I think Paradox should just swallow their pride here and let the community help out instead of dumping the entire thing on Groogy, who clearly has too busy a schedule to give the converter the love it deserves. If they're willing to let community members edit the map for AoW, then letting the Converter Improvement Project guys have a go shouldn't be too big a problem.

I converted a finished game. The Indian countries were all Western while a republic in Denmark, for example, was Muslim.

Some of these issues exist since the release of the converter, two DLCs ago. And I think it helps to list these issues so that Paradox knows about them and can actually fix them. You can't fix what you don't know about.

Some of these issues exist since the release of the converter, two DLCs ago. And I think it helps to list these issues so that Paradox knows about them and can actually fix them. You can't fix what you don't know about.

I find it somewhat darkly funny that the most vocally voiced complaint about the converter, the techgroups assignment, has ended up being even more broken after the 'fix.'

I just wish the techgroups could be divorced from any mention of region/culture/religion. Seeing India classified as 'Western' while Scandinavia becomes 'Muslim' or 'Chinese' is just painful to look at, even if I would like the system to reflect actual technological levels. In this case, the old religion=tech system with some modifiers works better.

Somali and Nubian aren't mapped to their EU4 counterparts in culture_table.

Visigothic becomes a Germanic culture in EU4.

Ibadi is mapped to Ibadi in heresy_table_soa but is mapped to Sunni in religion_table.

Kirghiz exports as a custom-defined culture instead of the existing EU4 Kyrgyz.

Egyptian exports as a custom-defined culture instead of the existing EU4 Egyptian.

Kurdish is set as non custom-defined but there is no Kurdish culture in EU4. Same with Samoyed.

Miaphysite/Monophysite convert to Orthodox instead of Coptic.

It's right after a DLC+patch that work only halfway. Do you REALLY believe they had the time to update the converter?

Not saying it's right, but please, be realistic. Expecting the converter to be adapted to the DLC at release is like expecting Paradox to release a DLC that doesn't break the game. (said in a completely scornful way towards Paradox.)

They updated the converter alongside CM but they did a poor job at it, as usual. It takes one minute to open the files and immediately see that stuff is missing.

They didn't bother making it fully compatible with Rajas of India until now, six months later. And now they broke other stuff...

This isn't acceptable. The converter should always be compatible on day one.

Some bugs are as old as the converter itself - I have to test if French cultures still overwrite country-specific ideas.

I haven't actually tested it, just looked at the files. The only thing that was fixed in the beta afaik is unreformed Norse becoming reformed Norse.

I'm currently testing it and the Miaphysite -> Coptic / Ibadi -> Ibadi conversion seem to work just fine. I was even able to convert a pre-CM save (where Ibadi's still a heresy) to EU4 and Ibadi was converted correctly.

But the cultures are really messed up. But Lombards are correctly converted to their EU4 equivalent, at least in my converted save games.

Ibadi and Miaphysite are in heresy_table_soa in addition to religion_table. So I guess the mapping in heresy_table overrides the one in religion_table.

Still though they should be removed from heresy_table (because they don't belong there) and the value in religion_table should be corrected.
