CK2 DLCs or Cities Skylines

Not sure if I want to get a CK2 DLCs or Cities: Skyline...

I am considering getting Horse Lords, Conclave, and Reapers Due...

Though I don't plan to play nomads... so I am not sure if I really want to get... since the only beneficial thing that DLC basically adds is tributaries for Feudal governments right?

And I am not sure if want to get Conclave or not since all I really want is the child education system it adds... not really into the idea of getting bent over by my vassals...

Meanwhile Reapers Due seems like a DLC I want because of new events, and yay for more specified illness that are interesting... but its not on sale yet so.... hmm.

Should I cough up $23 for the CK2 dlcs that will probably make my CK2 experience a lot less enjoyable... or get another Paradox game for basically 1/3 the price

Well my love for CK2 and potential hours of joy immediately (for a game that I am already quite financially/emotionally invested ).... or some unknown game which I will have to learn about... which also has quite a few DLCs that might be needed to get the full experience...

I am a full on veteran of city builder games... though I am unsure if City Skylines actually has what I want beyond just city building... which is the management / politics that some other games have. Like Sims City 3000 or Sims City 4, where you had lobbyist asking you to conflicting things. Like Greenpeace Hippies wanting to ban all industries, while they Industrial lobbyist wanted to build Nuclear Power plants and Toxic Waste processing factories in your cities.

Sorry that I responded late. I'd go for the rest of the CKII DLC to complete the package. I got Cities: Skylines recently and I enjoy it, despite not being a big city builder game person, and I'm sure that you would enjoy it too if you like that kind of game. As far as content goes, it seems a bit lacking, but it is a more casual game and I'm sure future DLC will add what is missing.

Honestly, they're both on sale often so you're probably not deciding what you're going to purchase, but what you're going to purchase first. So here's my question, what do you want to play 'right now'? As in this very moment.

I love CK2 and all the political interaction it has to offer. Though I got to say I have been wanting to play a good new City Builder for a long while. I was one of the people who were severely disappointed at Sims City 2013's botch development.

I am honestly just trying to consider what to buy first. Because to be honest I want to play both right now. Its inevitable that I will buy the CK2 DLCs, though right now price point wise I am a bit hesitant since I know CK2 will come out with another DLCs in a few months and they always put the previous ones on sale for a less price, not to mention the free patches always cause lots of changes to the game. But at the same time getting Cities: Skyline, the base game is $8, but I don't like playing incomplete games when I know there are DLCs that add in new content... which would inevitably make me buy the dlcs for Skylines also... so at the end of the day the cost will still be around $20-25 at the moment.

So the main thing I am curious about which is does Cities Skyline have any events where you make decisions and interact with petitioners / lobbyist like Sims City 3000 / 4 had?

Or is it just simply look at charts and data crunching all day with no political simulation?

Because the main thing that puts me off with the older Sims City games, is the fact that after the initial hurdle, the game just became a boring traffic management simulator with no flavoring late game or anything else to do. I can handle playing game that forces you to heavily invest in traffic management as long as there is something else going... something that makes your city seem alive beyond just watching cars and people commuting.

If it doesn't have that then I will most likely go with CK2... because that is the only real thing I am looking for at the moment... since I am tired of all the city builder games where you just plop stuff down, look at charts to see what you missing, and plop more stuff down... I want some more the governing feeling than the actual city architect feeling at this point.

I have Cities: Skylines too, but its kind of boring right now tbh. It will probably be better once the new disasters DLC comes out.

It's pretty much what you expect it to be, havenost. There's no real politics at all. You meet the demands of the people, more people come, then you meet their demands. It's a city builder and management game, not a political game, and all city builder games becomes routine once you get a hold of the mechanics. Reading your last post, my opinion remains with the CKII DLC. Nonetheless, you might want to follow Cities: Skylines's development. There's a new DLC coming out that's adding disasters and there's surely more to follow.

There's a game coming out in early 2017 called 'Urban Empire'. It's published by Kalypso Media Digital, the Tropico people. It might be worth a look for you.

Personally, I love Conclave. Most of the issues that people complain about are regarding the 2.5 patch, and many of these have now been addressed. Horse Lords... well, I never have and probably never will buy it, since I don't plan on playing nomad, and the tributary system is never something that I've taken advantage of.

Well I played a multiplayer game with a friend that had the DLC. Tributaries were pretty useful... it was like having vassals without their bullshit. Since they paid you basically taxes, and you could call them to arms... without them messing up your realm laws, or doing stupid stuff that you didn't want them to.

CKII is more enjoyable than C:SL. That's why I'm in the PDS section of the forums, not the Paradox-published section.

Both are hard to compare. I like both genres although I admit I am not playing C:SL at all currently. This is mainly related to lacking meaningful city development issues and/or internal game logic flaws. Greatest issue for me is demoscopics and education then traffic. They realeased a new module but frankly, 5 bucks for a handful of pure eye-candy...well, maybe i wait until there is a weekend sale. Disasters I do not like at all. I hated them in Sim City 4 and I am not likely to believe that they will add anything good to the game. In CK2 i am not content with certain conclave mechanisms like powerful vassals and their opinion hit and them being able to meddle around when I want to dish out titles. But still this game is enjoyable. I own every add-on aside from the audio-books and the EU4 converter since I do not own EUIV. I play with everything enabled.
