CK2 Dev Diary#24: The 2.6.2 patch

Hello and welcome back to another CK2 Development Diary. The 2.6.2 update looms rather near now, and if everything goes to plan it should be released on Thursday (hopefully we will have an open beta on Friday). I’ll start out with the bad news; due to some unforeseen problems one of the game rules I mentioned last week will not be included with this patch: The Multiplayer Assassination rule. However, we do have two other game rules for you which you may find interesting:

  1. De jure Requirement: Default/Required. On default, nothing changes, but with “Required” characters who hold titles which have de jure land will eventually lose the title if they don’t hold any of the de jure land.
  2. Horse Lords:Nomad Stability: Unstable/Stable. Now when a Khagan dies, his vassals have the possibility to break away and form their own realms -with the new Khagan getting a CB on them. Setting “Stable” keeps the old behaviour.

There was some outcry last week because Jews and Zoroastrians didn’t also get a crusader style trait, so I’ve managed to sneak both in with the Shaddai and Gond-i Shahanshah traits. While we were in a trait-adding mood, both Cannibal and Lover’s Pox were changed from character modifiers to traits (although we have left the old modifier checks in place so ongoing games aren’t broken).
traits_2.6.2.jpg

The Gender Equality gamerule and laws revealed a few problems with Muslim events always assuming Muslim rulers would be male, so we’re spend a bit of time adding the appropriate checks which should result in a more flavourful Muslim experience.

As well as this, there are plenty of small fixes and additions to many other things, but I’ll let you explore the game and/or the patchnotes to discover them for yourselves.

Shaddai is a name of god in Hebrew and with an unsure meaning (Though it also literally means "My Breasts"), so that's not a very good name. There isn't really a good name for a Jewish "Crusader", but the best I can think of is "Tzadik", meaning something along the lines of rightous. Also, i'm not a zoroastrian nor do I speak persian, but according to wikipedia "Gond-i Shahanshah" literally means "army of the shahanshah" and was some elite unit, nothing religious, so if someone here speaks persian he could probably propose a better name.
Using God as the name of a religious soldier seems plain wrong, even moreso in Judaism where the very name of God is sacred. Kanai could probably work for the Jewish Crusader, but I'm by no means an expert. As for the Zoroastrians, I have no idea except that "army of the shahanshah" doesn't really work in singular. You gain the trait "Crusader" not "Crusaders".

In before Tengri fans claiming Tengri needs to be on the list. Don't listen to them, Tengri already have plenty.
Last time I remember Tengri doesn't have any 'patron deity' mechanic in CK2. But it should be because there are plenty of them if Paradox wants to add.

Here's the deities:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Turkic_mythological_figures#Deities

But the most popular deities in Tengri:
Gok Tengri: Creator of everything, Chief God in Tengri and the God of Sky. Gök means Sky in Turkish and Tengri is also simply means 'the God'.
Kayra (Kaira in spelling) or Kayra Khan: Supreme God of universe. He is the Spirit of God (Gok Tengri) and the creator god including the other gods.
Ulgan or Ülgen: God of benevolence. Ruler of Sky, Son of Kayra and that means he is actually the son of Gok Tengri.
Erlik or Erlik Khan: God of the dead and of the underworld. He kept his existence in Tengriism, as the evil deity (Like in Zoroastrianism).
Umay (Umai in spelling): Goddess of fertility and virginity.

Other 'major gods' who described in Wiki are also important but these fives are the most important ones. Of course you can also use other major gods like Mergen (god of wisdom and abundance) or Kyzaghan/Kızağan (god of war).

Please can you explain further?
If I'm king of England but I've no demesme in England , I can lose the title ?
Or it will happen if I've no vassal in England (supposing that nobody can usurp the title) ?

As I understand, it happens if situations like these: King of England conquers France, eventually the French vassals kick him out so he has no more vassals or demesne there, and after a while loses his title as the King of France because, well, he has nothing to do with France anymore.

Yeah, thats a pretty good name. Also kanai in modern hebrew is the male singular form of "jealous"

You're right Tengri has always seemed to be absent from new patron deity mechanic talk.

To clarify though yes they have a pantheon of gods worthy enough to be included in this new patron deity mechanic. I meant that they don't need that much more added gameplay wise. Between their existing mechanics, CBs, the new ancestral worship which they got with 2.6.

It's just like the Norse who have an arguably more famous pantheon from which they could choose from. But even more so than Tengri Norse is already stacked and adding patron deity would be even more stacked, no matter how cool it would be.

- Added another option to Supernatural Events to allow the AI to receive them
Does this include all supernatural events or only immortality? Currently (or at least prior to Reaper's Due) the AI can receive devil spawn events - which I like and want to keep enabled as they often cause quite the ruckus and still are quite rare. However, I don't want immortal AI characters and even tend to avoid the immortality chain when I receive it, taking the piety option instead. Have supernatural events turned into an all or nothing deal for the AI with this new rule?
- Landed characters can no longer be heirs in Merchant Republics
Does this include dynasty members landed as burghers, i.e. ordinary republics? I often land my heir as a two or three province grand mayor, if I'm a bit over my demesne limit.

This would be good to deal with the ( quite awful but common ) situation when the duke of Anjou ends owning the county of Barcellona and having a single vassal in Skane...

But (following the same example) the title of Duke of Anjou will be destroyed or will revert to the king of France (if he controls the de-jure vassals ) ?

*facepalm to myself*
Got it. Not the commander position is empty, but there is no army in the flank.

Stupido me. Scusi.

Regarding the current patch :
It would also be great if we could get a statement for why we suddenly can't war (at least with the de-jure CB)
one-county vassals of the same liege anymore (example: Duke of Champagne in 1066 and count of Sens) and a confirmation that it's not a bug.
What's the idea behind this ?

(edit: a response to this in post# 58 below.)

A few questions about the title loss due to a lack of de jure land:

- Are viceroyalties immune to this? If not, has the AI been taught to give viceroyalties to appropriate vassals to avoid the titles being destroyed (I believe I have seen a few cases where all the de jure vassals of a certain viceroyalty were other viceroys and thus the relevant viceroy didn't have any de jure land)...

- Are realms currently engaged in (civil) wars immune to this, e.g. if the king of England-France has a massive rebellion in his French lands?

- Are titles being targeted in a war immune to this, e.g. the "English Claim on Scotland War" vs. a Scotland that has lost its de jure somehow?

- Are claims awarded on title loss? If so, what kind of claims?

- Are there any further penalties (prestige loss, vassals opinion hits, etc.) for losing titles?

- How long does it take for a title to be destroyed after you lose all of the de jure land?

- Are alternative titles awarded if the aren't held by anyone at the moment if your last primary tier title is destroyed but you hold a certain percentage of the new title's land? For example, would the king of France get the kingdom of Aquitaine if his capital is there when he loses the last of the French de jure land and there is no current king of Aquitaine?

Your realm just needs to control some of de jure england, you don't need to have demesne there.

E: It's a chance on death. Title is destroyed. You get a strong claim on the area.

Nice ones will probably play with both these on a lot.

Dammit guys that was so tiny and so rare and you can't just let us have our Roman restoration fun?

Yea I get it, it was only for history, it wasn't fleshed out and there's no cultural retinue.
Well they could add a roman immortal character for such purposes, but getting a roman physician makes no sense.

I would assume it's destroyed. Preferably if this destruction would down tier him he should get a titular duchy copied of his new primary title. Your duke of anjou would become the titular duke of Barcelona.

Inb4 the platypuses vs platypi discussion breaks out again. It's already become endemic to the Forums.
Platypi!

I asked Doomdark about it. He changed this during Reaper's in order to prevent vassals from taking other vassals from their liege. So you cannot use the De Jure claim CB for the last title of any other vassal within the same realm.

Why is that? Why on earth Norse and Tengrism not going to have patron gods!? If that's not hardcoded then I'm going to add patron gods for Nordic Pantheon and the Steppe Pantheon in my mod, The Legend of Zendar!
