I would think that a CK FtG/AoD would be much more likely since Vicky still wont be out for a while. And witing for sequels to two of my favorite games at the same time would be to much:p

I'd be very happy but see impossible that CK2 will be announced earlier than Vicky's 2 release in 6-7 months, doubt they'll make same error as last time of having two major projects running at same time

Oh, I have no illusion of it being released in 2010, but to have CK2 announced is such a huge improvement over last year when CK2 was simply never going to happen.

That said, spending this year reading dev diaries and salivating in expectation over CK2 would be fun, can't wait. I'm ready to pre-order.

CK was just a glimpse of a very innovative game that never really was, and still it was enjoyable enough even being not polished and sometimes just flawed in it's design.

I've read time and again PI saying CK is a gem that unfortunatly didn't get the attention it deserved. I'm sure they will want to get it right with CK2.

If only Sweden wasn't so damn cold...and far away... :wacko

I would think that a CK FtG/AoD would be much more likely since Vicky still wont be out for a while. And witing for sequels to two of my favorite games at the same time would be to much:p

FtG/AoD are not Paradox's work, well...they are but they aren't. They are groups of fans who licensed the engines of these games so they could work on them. EU2 and HOI2 are remarkable games who went thought years of polishing and tweaking. CK never even came close to be half that.
Although we can't know for sure I doubt anyone asked for the rights to work on CK, it just has so many fundamental flaws I bet anyone trying to get something out of it would go crazy.

No...CK2 is a start from scratch deal and I bet Johan wants this to be his baby finally.

It would be great. CK and to a much much lesser extent EUII is the only game I still play semi regularly. Mostly because it just has so much depth when you really get down to messing with it. Every game is completely unique, and DV made it a lot better.

That said, CK required a /lot/ of fan modding to become the great game it is. But it was certainly only possible thanks to the foundation Paradox laid.

Sadly, I've purchased several, and yet, have almost never felt the urge to replay a paradox game made with the EUIII engine, Rome included, etc.

What I would like to see is for them to really focus on the dynasty system, traits and events that random character building events that inject so much life into the game. If possible, to make it even more comprehensive and thorough. And something to make inter-dynastic wars more logical.

Oh, I meant if both Vicky 2 and CK 2 were in development at the same time, I would be so excited that I dont know what I would do:D. So thats why I jokingly implied thaht I was happy that it would be one of the user projects and not the inhouse developed CK 2;)

Then again both FtG and AoD are developed/made by people who where already busy with modding EU2 and HoI2.

The last couple of years there have been only two people actively making what one could call 'complete scenario mods' and I know for sure that one of those two doesn't have the Europa-license :) and I don't think the other one has either.

So that would almost mean that some unknown group of people, who in the last couple of years didn't mod CK at all are now suddenly making a new version of CK.

Of course I could be completely wrong but also be very much surprised.

I'm sort of thinking they might announce it next week, but in any case if CK2 is next in line after V2, they will announce it and start planning and design, but probably not development before V2 goes gold (and the good folks at PI have had their summer vacations after the last-minute crunch time of coding V2). So i'm moderately confident they'll announce CK2 sometime in spring 2010, but the release date will be 2011 at the earliest.

At least they have a loyal and active fanbase here on the forums to offer ideas and eventually maybe betatest. Speaking of which, what has the PI policy on game betas been, do they actually have a testing round?

As far as I know, they have ustilized beta-testers for a while, and expect them to do so also on any new titles they release. Would make little sense to not use the free and eager work-force to help in ironing out issues.

Note however that as a result of HoI3's issues, starting with Vicky 2 they are planning to use a professional testing company. I assume they will continue to use volunteer betas as well but I don't know if they have confirmed that yet.

It is a good thing to have a prefessional tester company on hand for all program bugs, CTDs etc. But I doubt they would have much feeling or interest in things like balance or gameplay issues.

For this Beta testers from the community are better, since we have a huge interest in the game. Also it is free labour, so why not take advantage of it ... even if the effects are limited :)

They certainly are still using the work/research of the mod community (Vicky 2's map is adapted from OHGamer's Clio project IIRC).

That's why I strongly support open beta. Paradox's games don't have DRMs anyway, the only thing bad that could happen from open betas is people getting the wrong feel for the game before it is actually ready. Then again I still think this is minor compared to people actually paying and THEN getting a bad feeling about the game. (in the long term anyway).

So open betas all the way, not only for patches but pre-launch also.

I dunno. At this point, considering EU:Rome and HOI3, I'd be very nervous CK2 would suck.

Actually, Rome with the Vae Victis expansion is my second favorite game from Paradox (after Crusader Kings with Deus Vult). I know Paradox will get CK2 right, even if it takes an expansion to do so. ;)
