I too struggle with this performance (on Linux), rendering the game unplayable it even persists in the menus no matter the graphical setting.

I don't really want to tinker with my system, as it should not be necessary to play a game. And since I don't know the repercussions of the commands suggested, I won't delve into those, maybe that will just present more problems when the game is updated. I don't even have the mentioned directories under /etc as @kekekeks mention. It's been two weeks since launch and there has not been much communication outside of a patch coming "sometime"... I know the world situation is unique at the time but come on, more communication, Paradox.

Hey everyone,

Thank you so much for your lshw.txts and for uploading a video of the stuttering - this really helps our team as we've not been able to reproduce it fully on our end at this moment. Also, thanks for sharing the workarounds so that people can enjoy the game while we're trying to resolve the issue on our end.

We've logged this issue on our bug database and will continue to monitor the issue - I'll not lock the thread though, in case there's further developments with the workaround-troubleshooting.

Thanks again everyone,
Cederstronk

What is the latest update? It's been over two weeks since launch and the game is still unplayable.

Linux users even already debugged and pinpointed exactly what/why/where the issue is. If you guys aren't able to reproduce this then you need to hire someone who is able to actually investigate Linux issues. At first I thought this was a distro-specific quirk but I spent a couple hours installing the officially supported distro (Ubuntu) and had the exact same problem.

I will be refunding this game unfortunately as Paradox once again treats Linux as a second-class citizen despite charging the same price as the Windows release.

There is also the case where, while the issue is indeed present, it doesn't seem/feel to cause stuttering issues, like my case for example, but a quick console check and you see the issue right in front of you.

Solved with this AppArmor profile that denies access to /dev/input/** specifically for CK3

/etc/apparmor.d/custom.ck3.202 :
Code:
# vim:syntax=apparmor

#include <tunables/global>

"/path/to/your/steam/steamapps/common/Crusader Kings III/binaries/ck3" {

  deny /dev/input rw,

  deny /dev/input/** rw,

  capability,

  network,

  mount,

  remount,

  umount,

  pivot_root,

  ptrace,

  signal,

  dbus,

  unix,

  file,

  deny /dev/input rw,

  deny /dev/input/** rw,

}

apply with
Bash:
sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/custom.ck3.202

A quick pointer for anyone using this workaround, apparmor doesn't resolve symlinks. This tripped me up so noting it here for anyone else.

Make sure "/path/to/your/steam/steamapps/common/Crusader Kings III/binaries/ck3" is the actual path to the binary.
