We have investigated the issue. The reason for this CTD is that the save was made in the previous game version (1.5.1.1). As with every release, due to i.e. map and culture changes, loading previous saves will result in multitude of errors, CTDs included.

To revert to the previous game version, please go to Properties of the game on Steam -> Betas -> 1.5.1.1

Unfortunately yes, as the game version in the save was already overwritten. To continue this playthrough, you need to access an older save that wasn't loaded in 1.6.0

This is rly shit. I will lose 10 Years and good progress. -.-

Thank you for the help.
What could i do now with my older save and playing with 1.6.0 ?
Ist there any chance to convert the savegame into 1.6.0 without bugs?

I don't want to lose years of good progress.
Is this issue going to be fixed in the next patch? Should I wait for the patch?
Or this is the only way to play this current playthrough?

AHHH. I got this problem too, I don't want to start anew I wasted so many hours into this. I already continued as 1.6. Moreover, I play on Game pass and don't see how to reverse version. (even reverse won't help anyway since I play as 1.6 for like 10 hrs)

Will you fix this paradox ? Please help, I want to cry. Why do you have us using new patch without any warning about old save file being crash ? :<

While we do not expect the save versions to be incompatible, please make sure you wrap up your previous playthrough to ensure a seamless transition. If you encounter issues, you can of course roll these saves back to a previous version UNLESS you are playing in Ironman.

Unfortunately, due to amount of changes introduced in 1.6.0 - the map revisions, new faiths and tweaks to existing ones, the struggle system and multitude of smaller ones - each save from 1.5.1.1 would need to be almost hand-crafted to work without issues.

Also unfortunately, the MS Store (which includes Xbox Game Pass) does not have a function to access other versions of CK3.

There is a warning both in launcher and in game about loading different version saves - "The last game save was created on a different version of the game. Resuming from it might cause the game to malfunction or even crash."

The saves get their version updated while launching the game, and it can only go up - meaning it's impossible to safely switch the save to previous version.

I understand your frustration, but this is the extent of support we can provide on this matter.

Hi,
Same problem here. I understand the "it was documented" defense, but the save worked fine for me for like 10 years, and I assumed I can safely overwrite my old version save. It's really annoying that I have to restart the game from scratch after 28 hours of progress. If each old save was doomed to crash ("each save from 1.5.1.1 would need to be almost hand-crafted to work without issues", as you said), a warning might have been not enough. Not allowing to load on the new version would have been better in my opinion.
Anyway, I understand you can't do anything about it now, please just take this as feedback for the future.
