I tried deleting 00_major_decisions_iberia_north_africa.txt and running the save because based on error.log, it was causing repeated errors:

Code:
[11:53:24][jomini_script_system.cpp:262]: Script system error!
Error: Failed to fetch a valid faith 'north_african_acham_pagan'
Script location: file: common/decisions/00_major_decisions_iberia_north_africa.txt line: 404
[11:53:24][jomini_script_system.cpp:262]: Script system error!
Error: Failed to fetch a valid faith 'mozarabic_church'
Script location: file: common/decisions/00_major_decisions_iberia_north_africa.txt line: 648
[11:53:24][jomini_script_system.cpp:262]: Script system error!
Error: Failed to fetch a valid faith 'mozarabic_church'
Script location: file: common/decisions/00_major_decisions_iberia_north_africa.txt line: 803

Didn't work. Those errors are gone but the game still crashed at the same point after running the save file for 20s.

However now I've noticed this error and I think it might be the actual cause of the crash?
[11:42:33][pdx_assert.cpp:612]: Assertion failed: County without holder

Not sure what to do with that :)

Those specific errors make it look like the save you're using was started before 1.6. That's something that could very easily make the game crash.

Unfortunately, there is no solution for that, other than starting a new playthrough. Or you could try rolling back to 1.5, but if you already saved while in 1.6, it would *probably* crash anyway.

I'm pretty sure I started that game in 1.6 though. I tried rolling back to all available 1.6.* versions but it didn't help.
Also I've played on that save for probably more than 20 hours before this happened.

If that's true, then why does it say "Error: Failed to fetch a valid faith 'mozarabic_church'"? This faith was present in all 1.6 versions of the game.
I've never had that error myself, but I've also never tried playing a 1.5 save in 1.6, as I knew it would just create more bugs.

The only other possibility I can think of is that you're using mods (which would have to be outdated or not properly updated), but you answered no to that question...

Alright, but that's really not surprising.

I can believe that. I didn't mean loading a 1.5 save into 1.6 would 100% make the game crash immediately, I just meant it has a high chance of happening at some point. Even if only after 20 hours of playing (or more).
The problem here (still assuming you really aren't using mods) is that there's clearly something wrong with that save, and it's hard to tell what exactly causes the crash, because there are just too many possibilities in this context.

Removing that decision file removes all the mozarabic faith errors from the logs and it still crashes, so I think that's not the issue anyway.
Also, not using any mods.

Again, I'm not saying this specific issue would crash the game, just that it can be used as an indicator that either your save was started before 1.6, or that there's something wrong with your files (game files or save). Either of those can (not exactly a guarantee, but still) lead to critical issues, especially in the longer term.

Yet you say:
- No mods
- Files were verified
- Save was started on 1.6 (my bad, you said "pretty sure")

It doesn't make sense.

Unless your save got corrupted through another way... but then it could be so many things. Although I just tried the save, and I see it's an ironman save.
Every time I've had a problem of save corruption with a game, it was always an autosave of some sort, like ironman. So maybe it's just that in the end... I can't tell for sure though, I've avoided using any form of autosaving feature for a long time now.

Now all that being said, I tried loading your save without using any mods. Like you said, it crashes shortly after (at the end of the month).
Then I tried loading it with my mods enabled (the main one is to fix bugs), and for some reason it no longer crashed... but it was slow as hell. Especially at the start of each month. And there were too many errors in the log, all errors I never see with my saves.
There's definitely something wrong with your save, one way or another.

Unfortunately, I don't have any idea how to salvage it. You could always hope that update 1.6.1.2 will fix it, but... I wouldn't count on it.
