The game crashes (not immediately but after like 15 seconds or so) whenever I'm trying to start it

Is there anything else you think could help us identify/replicate the issue?
According to the game log there's provinces with no pixels (I assume the ones that got added in 1.6). Obviously they don't exist in the previous save (because that one's from 1.5.1.1) but that shouldn't stop me from starting the game, should it?

I am echoing the above. Crash when I try to start, 1.6.0.1, on Mac, via steam, all DLCs, no mods, have verified files, 10/10 pain, crash is after a little bit of loading time, and attaching the same logs plus error.log since that seems relevant too. I also have an entire folder for "crashes" if that would help.

If it starts loading the game the logs should be up to date since one of the first things we do when booting the game is clearing all of the log files so that's a good thing. I did notice in the error log from @richman96 that it errors multiple times for files with a 'toi' prefix which I've tried to verify that those are not vanilla files.

Could both of you find the dlc_load.json file inside your userpath (default path $HOME/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings III)? We use the dlc_load file to determine which files should be mounted and loaded during startup of the game.

Another question that could help us troubleshoot and potentially reproduce this issue is what version of MacOS you're running the game on?

Thank you for responding! I run the game on MacOS 10.15.7 (quite an old version, ik). Unfortunately, I'm not able to attach the dlc_load.json file, because the .json format is not supported here. It says the following in there tho:

Hopefully I will cover everything.

1. The "toi" files would presumably be from the Tales of Ireland mod that I have played in the past and that I have a playset for, but the playset I am currently trying to boot up from has no mods.

2. I see the dlc_load.json file and can open it via my finder, but when I click on attach files within this thread, it appears grayed out and cannot be clicked on. The entire text of the file is the following:

{"enabled_mods":[],"disabled_dlcs":[]}

3. I run 11.6.6 Big Sur

Hmm that is weird. The json files not having an entry under enabled mods should enforce that we don't try to load the mod.

However I would suggest that you try to unsubscribe fully from the mod (You can add it as a favorite instead on Steam Workshop so you don't forget about it for later) and see if that fixes the issue for you.

It has not. I have unsubscribed from all mods and removed them from all playsets and still crash. It does create what seem to be crash report folders that may be different from what we have been attaching above? I'll add the most recent one here. What is odd is that the error.log file is completely empty.

In the meantime could you supply us with your system information for your machines?

  1. Click Apple menu > About This Mac to open an overview about your Mac.
  2. For greater detail in the System Information app, click the System Report button.
  3. To open System Information directly, press and hold the Option key and choose Apple menu > System Information. You can also use Spotlight to find System Information or open it from the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
  4. To save a copy of your system report, choose File > Save.

Here is my zip file as I too could not upload the full document.

As for the timestamps, I assume that my above logs are time accurate as I just tried to load the game again, it crashed, and the now existing logs are correctly stamped. But in case that is not the case, I am attaching the now-current logs which I can confirm are time accurate. The error.log file was empty.

Still utterly unplayable and concerning that a month after launch, people still can't even open the game...
Seems that we both suffer from this issue (apparently we were never meant to be able to play the game on our machines anyways):
