Please explain the issue you experienced in the most condensed way possible
When two mods modify the 02_genes_accessories_misc.txt file, it appears to cause a crash to desktop. Both my mod (Vampirism and Lycanthropy) and CFP (Community Flavor Pack) modify this file. If either mod is run separately, the game loads just fine. If you enable both mods, it crashes to the desktop before you ever make it to the main menu. I thought it might be because when one file overrides the other, there would be a missing reference. To test this, I created a "patch" mod that combined both of our files into one and loaded it after both mods. This did not work, and the crash still occurred.

Before 1.7, both of these mods ran together without crashing. Both had overrides to this file. If I remove the file, and the file that assigns the new teeth within my mod, then it will load just fine. This is how I was able to isolate it to this mod file.

Please explain how to reproduce the issue
Load the Vampirism and Lycanthropy mod with Community Flavor Pack. You could also create two new small mods that both try to overwrite the 02_genes_accessories_misc.txt file and get the same result.

Is there anything else you think could help us identify/replicate the issue?

There are a lot of reports on steam workshop from players who experience crashes related to using one or several mods.

My assumptions are : loading of an old save, what Zinryu points as a file patching issue and some ones related to what was hotfixed today (although reports are still coming in).

Unfortunately I have been unable to reproduce the crash and players have proved inefficient at forwarding crash logs.

I will provide more data whenever I can, I just wanted to back the issue and the need of a deeper investigation with your internal tools.

It's worth noting that I've cleared out all the saves when trying this. So I can confirm that this particular crash is not related to save games. I also tried it this morning after the new patch to confirm it's still an issue.

I am also having this same issue as well, went through all of the mod troubleshooting steps, can produce my error.log and the crash folder, with both CFP and EPE and the compatch together

I figure it out!!! it's related to BAP, cause when I had BAP and the compatch with EPE it would crash soo it wasn't CFP at all :)
should tell them to try disabling BAP and the compatch

I do not use BAP and it still crashes. It seems to crash when I try to launch the game with the CFP and EPE. From my own testing, the guy that made the thread is correct.

I don't think it's just that specific file TBH, it may be "anything in the common/genes folder" or at the very least more than that specific file.

Like many people, I run several mods that modify files in that folder (in my case CFP, Witches and Alchemists, Sunset Invasion, and their associated compatches).

I only started encountering this crash after I installed Witches and Alchemists, which doesn't modify 02_genes_accessories_misc.txt, but does modify 05_genes_specia;l_accessories_clothes, 06_genes_special_accessories_headgear, and 07_genes_special_accessories_misc.

Once I combined all of my mods' changes to those files into one version of each in a new personal compatch mod, and then went into the original mods' Workshop folders and removed their versions, the crash stopped happening. It seems to me that the game is, for some reason, having trouble properly handling multiple versions of at least those files? Normally what should happen is that load order determines which version should be used, but in this case that's not happening and the game crashes while loading instead.

I've attached the crash dump (except for the save file, which doesn't seem to be relevant and would have made it too large to upload).

Since the latest update of Community Flavor Pack (3.1.6, yesterday), there is now a CTD when using Ethnicities & Portraits Expanded (see attached crash dump file).
Used mods : CFP + EPE, nothing else.

3.1.5 behave correctly, both mods are running fine separately, we are combining or efforts to try to find exactly what's wrong but we have been unsuccessful at this point.

Unhandled Exception C0000005 (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) at address 0x00007FF797BD6011

The same exception happened to @Zinryu but at a different address in his initial message. I asked him to retry with CFP 3.1.6 and he now has the same Exception at the same address.


As you can see bellow this situation is very complicated to deal with a lot of CTD reports (that's only an abstract) that there is nothing we can do about but revert our mods and delay any further update.

In the my files under this comment is the error.log and the other files are the content of my most recent entry folder in the "crashes" folder

I've now been in contact with the development team about this issue, and we have added it to our database. While I can't give you an exact estimate when this will be resolved, I want to assure you that this is being investigated and handled so that it can be resolved as soon as possible.

The issue is now even wider than before and applies to 2 of the biggest mods for the game, the community flavor pack and extended portraits and ethnicities.

The fun thing about this 4-5 days ago these mods were in my game in this particular load order. (added the CFP 3.1.5) too the pack just now.

These are the mods I am using in my playtests right now, the first 4 casuses me most of the problems if I remove them the game works but the enjoyment is lower. The others seem work fine even with version issues can run. 5 days ago the game worked just fine with this, clicked on a ruler in Iceland, the game crashed since then I cannot run the game with these mods because crashing on the loading screen. The duration of loading time is various sometimes under 10 sec I crash sometimes 2-3 min till I crash. I also tried to change the loading order and clear everything fort and back but the issue is still there.

Also the game bug reporter crashed and could not send what I experienced.

All the same issues as above. For me I have identified EPE as the mod that causes the crash. Removing that seems to reduce the crash while loading chance from 100% to only occasionally. My crash reporter also fails to send reports and crashes itself.

Another curious thing I noticed is that EPE is also the only mod in my playset that shows a negative value as its size (-1.09GB):
