I opened my Ironman game, having not played it since October 6, to find that the game I had saved was not accessible within the game when I tried to load it--it did not only show up as invalid, but it did not appear.
At the current moment, I'm stuck in a timewarp where no progress I make is ever saved, so it's not really worth playing the game. Any idea how I can exit said timewarp and save my progress?
The game is not writing the saved game to my cloud. I did not find them saved there.
I have spent a few days at the Paradox help center, who directed me here.
Please explain how to reproduce the issue
Having looked at the Paradox forums, I went to Steam, went to CK3, and then Settings-->Properties, and unchecked the box for "Keep Game Saves in the Steam Cloud for Crusader Kings III." I then found my save game, saved as "last_save" at ""C:\Users\lloyd\OneDrive\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III\last_save.ck3" and copied the file to "C:\Users\lloyd\OneDrive\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III\save games." I then loaded the game, played it for several hours, and exited to desktop, content that it should autosave locally.
However, upon exiting, I found that nothing had been saved. I tried to return to the game, but only was directed to the same "last_save" file. I then re-checked the box for "Keep Game Saves in the Steam Cloud for Crusader Kings III" and tried again with the same result: no new save.
I then played from the last_save point until the next autosave point, when I exited. Same result: no new save.
I then re-un-checked the box for "Keep Game Saves in the Steam Cloud for Crusader Kings III" and played to the next autosave point and exited. I also got the same result: no new save.
I've now added the Paradox Launcher, CK3.exe, and Steam.exe to my "Apps Allowed Through" List on Windows Defender, and then even turned off the Controlled Feature Access setting.
It did indeed seem that OneDrive was causing a problem, and it even was creating a similar problem for another computer game I play. I also noticed that Windows Defender was blocking this game, too, so I simply turned off Controlled Folder Access (I don't even recall having turned it on). This resolved the problem with my other game, but not with my Ironman save.
I then followed the forum's advice with moving files from OneDrive to my local drive, and then uninstalling and reinstalling the game with syncing paused. Unfortunately, the Ironman save still isn't saving. However, I created a new non-Ironman save as a test, and that game is saving correctly--and even overwriting old saves when I give them the same names. I then created a new Ironman save, and that is also saving correctly. The last_save file in the folder that contains the "save games" folder has now been overwritten with this new save, as intended.
I then went one step further and de-linked my Documents folder from OneDrive before moving my Paradox folder to a new Documents folder hosted on my local drive. However, the same issue persists; I can't save my own Ironman game.
The last thing I could think of was to try is to uninstall the game again now that I've delinked the Documents folder from OneDrive and reinstall it once more. However, it also didn't work.
Is there anything else you think could help us identify/replicate the issue?
The first thing I did to rescue my game two days ago was to take the last_save file from its folder and copy it to the saved games folder. I then renamed it "Essyllt" after my character. Could that be causing a problem? Renaming the file "last_save" or "autosave_exit" after the fact did not help either.
I have attached a save game
