I just bought the game through humble bundle along with some dlc through the steam sale and it's all going well, however my screen brightness goes down whenever I start the game up. I've found the brightness doesn't change when the screen is under the windowed setting, however when it's windowed my taskbar causes problems with map scrolling and covers up text (and I can't hide it without problems as well). I'm thinking if I minimize the windowed screen enough that I could play, but it would be a lot nicer to play fullscreen/borderless without straining my eyes. I've looked around for other people with similiar problems and I think it may have something to do with an auto-adjust option that my laptop might have (which it does seem to have as it auto-adjusts my Civ 3 game when I load in). Another person with seemingly the same problem simply fixed it by reinstalling CK II which I'm thinking about, but I don't really want to give up my game save and was trying to fix it without restarting. Anyone else experience similiar problems or know any ways to fix it? Or should I just try reinstalling it on steam and see if anything changes.

Just reinstall, you’re saves will still be there.

If you want to be really sure backup your saves folder first. Just copy paste tot somewhere else.
I already went ahead to try to fix it by reinstalling and it ended up working out without losing any save files. If the problem persists in the future though I'll make sure to keep that advice in mind, thanks again.
