Jesus isn't God either or another name for it, yet it doesn't seem to bother you. Her place in the catholic faith is just as important as them, she even got her own cult. Her cult was even one of the main point of the birth of the Reformation in the 16th century.

It's a fairly important tenet of more or less all the forms of Christianity represented in the game that Jesus *is* God. (No Arians, after all.)

Do any of the event texts in the game actually imply that any random name chosen from god_names must actually be a god rather than a saint?

Without transforming this thread in a theology debate, I think the issue is what the devs meant by "god names". Mary isn't God for sure but is still critical in the catholic faith. If you want to consider Jesus as God, then it's about the Trinity with the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. The issue is there is no mention of the Holy Spirit, which diminishes the probability that they tought about Jesus as "a part of God" rather than "the son of God".

If they went with the "son of God" idea I think it makes sense to have Mary in there aswell.

I hate to break it to you, but I have a theology degree. So I stand by what I said above about the beliefs of the Christians represented in the game. And I agree with you about what the devs meant, which is why I asked what difference it makes in terms of the appearance of the so-called 'god names' entries in the in-game text.

I have a theology background as well, and this is a pretty egregious oversight. Trinitarian theology, as it is understood now and ever since the 1st Council of Constantinople in 381 AD, is summarized in the Athanasian Creed. No one of the Roman Church, even with its excessive emphasis on Mary, would ever claim her to be a person of the Godhead. Likewise, no Roman theologian would ever claim Jesus to be anything but a member of the Godhead--God in trinity of persons and unity of substance. This is indeed a heavy-duty fail.

I agree. But the problem is arguably with the localisation - if it used 'holy names' as the localisation for 'god_names', we wouldn't be having this discussion.

But @Lord Fullmetal was wrong to say "Jesus isn't God either", from the perspective of the Christians represented in the game. It's a serious misunderstanding of the entire history of mainstream Christianity to think otherwise.
