Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
I'm playing as the Byzantine Emperor. When I create a vassal merchant republic, my oldest son, who is not born in the purple and was never awarded despot, suddenly becomes my heir instead of my younger son who does have born in the purple and up until now was my heir.
Steps to reproduce the issue.
1. Start at 867 as Basileus. You'll have an older son who is not born in the purple and a younger son who is born in the purple. Note that the younger son is your heir.
2. Create a vassal Lord Mayor by making a city the primary holding in a county and then granting the county to someone. Ensure you do not give the county to someone of your dynasty so we can be certain that is not what messes up succession here.
3. Give the new Lord Mayor a ducal title to make a vassal merchant republic.
4. Check your heir. It should be the older son now instead of the younger son who has born in the purple.
My attached save file is just after winning a holy war for Krete, so that you can create the merchant republic there and observe the bug.
