Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
I've disabled all mods and started vanilla game yet when it I try loading a game to start it crashes, I checked file integrity, deleted old saves yet when I try loading a game it crashes.

Steps to reproduce the issue.

Just after start game (when selecting rules) it crashes on loading game.

Sounds quite strange. I'd suspect a corrupt file, and since an integrity check doesn't resolve the problem you should do a full reinstall.

If it does keep happening after that, there might be a conflict with something. Technical support should be able to help you more with that.

im having the same problem, reinstalling CK2 and clearing the cache files has not made a difference.

It crashes for me either after selecting rules on a new game or midway through loading a save.

Just to confirm I wasn't over looking anything obvious, I just started a new game as England in 1066, without any issues.

Since you've not had the issue since purchase, this is likely an issue on your end. You should probably head to technical support section with the problem.

Although noting your OS and uploading your error logs would be helpful if this is an OS related bug.

As I am having the exact same problem since the patch. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled. I've only been able to get it work once. It was when I started the game as quick as possible as HRE, changing no setting, setting to off of iron man. Trying to do it again failed.

What however is clearing the cache files and should I attempt to do so?

• Are you running the game in fullscreen, windowed or borderless ?
• What language are you using ?
• Does the crash happen *all the time* when starting a new game ?
• Does the crash happen *all the time* when loading a game ?
• Does it crash when loading a pre-2.8.2 save or a 2.8.2 save or both ?
• When does it crash during the loading ? (what does it says in the loading bar)
• If you get the crash, please go to C:\Users\[USER]\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II zip the "logs" folder and send it here along with a dump file generated in the "dumps" folder (same path)

yes, game crashes every time I try playing.
crashes when I load a pre 2.8.2 save, but I also cant start a 2.8.2 game either as it crashes as well.
it crashes when it says loading game after initialising game.

I to have the issue with the game after the latest update: But my game crashes around the flags right at the start.
I verified the files, uninstalled and installed it to no avail.
I am sure its related to the update that when I change the game back to 2.8.1 in the game properties on steam the game starts working fine.

I have the same. But I didn't do anything to try to fix it because I still have a save game I'd like to play. And from what I'm reading deactivating mods (mostly Better Looking Garbs and and some minor UI stuff) or even reinstalling wouldn't necessarily help anyways

Windows 10. Always crashes before I before I even get to the main menu. During "Loading graphics"

When I revert to 2.8.1 everything is fine

It's a bit of a long shot, but since it seems to crash at graphics loading, you can try the following (it may fix it, but no guarantee) :

• Deactivate all your mods if you had any active
• Close Steam
• Go to : C:\Users\[USER]\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II
• Delete your "gfx" folder
• Launch Steam
• Launch the game without any mod
• If it works and you were using mods, try activating the mods then. If it starts crashing again, then it's one of your mod being the problem

After some investigating, we're thinking mod issue. Something else you can try :

• Go to : C:\Users\[USER]\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\interface
• Backup the file called "game_rules.txt" (as in make a copy of it in on your desktop or somewhere else)
• Then, delete "game_rules.txt"
• Game Hopefully shouldn't crash then

Ah it was a mod. The culprit is "No DLC ads":

It has to do with the changes you made to the loading screen. Seems obvious when thinking about it

Not sure what issue the others here are having though

still not working I copied and pasted the game rules on to my desktop and then deleted the one in the folder.
I deleted the GFX folder closed steam before then restarted steam after the deletion yet it still does not work. When I check the crusader kings 2 folder it appears their again, should it appear their after starting the game again. Also I do have a lot of mods but all are off, also the only one I use are visit chambers and gift troops again they are off.

Your anti-virus software might be messing up the files/folders being set up by CK2.
I had this problem with Avast Internet Security and what worked for me was:

A clean re-install (uninstalled through Steam, deleted C:\Users\[USER]\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II, then re-installed) (NOTE: Backup any save you want to keep)
Going into the anti-virus program and adding C:\Users\[USER]\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II and steam\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings II into exclusions (meaning the anti-virus program won't scan it)
Launched the game
Avast stopped the game from setting up and asked if CK2 had permission to modify/set up files. Clicked yes, but the game still crashed
Deleted C:\Users\[USER]\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II again, just to be sure.
Launched the game again, everything worked.

• Exactly every time it says "loading game" when starting or loading a game. The sound cuts out and will crash without any pop ups.
