A good tool should only erease dead characters without living or dead childrens.
Precisely.

Only dead childless characters should be erased. Otherwise, it will destroy the whole inheritance concept.

You have to download both cygwin and ck-clean.
Which you can get from:

http://www.lysator.liu.se/~klas/CK/

http://www.cygwin.com/ (if you use windows)

Then put your savegame in the ...cygwin\bin folder.
Then open up the commandotolken, commandobox, dos-program or something like that.
Type where you have put your folder with the savegame. Like C:\Program Files\Cygwin\bin ck-clean "oldsavegame.eug" -o "newsavegame.eug"

Hopefully it should have worked for you.

Special thanks to ElCorruptoLoco who help me with this.

Then where I should put the ck-clean file.
In cygwin folder?

Yes copy all your xxx.exe programs which you hopefully downloaded with CK-clean and put them in the ...cygwin\bin folder.
Secondly put your savefile in the same folder and use the dos-program to delete the dead charachters.

No idea how this works, but if it indeeds removes characters who have children it could influence inheritance and probably marriages in general as the game loses track of relationships.

Yes. Before I try this program, I wonder if that does in fact occur. (I have enough problems with saved games already.)

Characters are not deleted if they fulfill at least one of the following conditions:
- The character is alive
- The character has at least one living parent
- The character was married to someone who will not be deleted
- The character has at least one living child
- The character has at least one living siblings

For agressiveness level 0 (default) there is also this condition:
- The character has more than one child with at least one living descendant.
For agressiveness level 1 there is this condition instead:
- The character has more than one living grandchild.
For agressiveness level 2 there is no additional condition(s). Agressiveness level 2 is the same behaviour as ck-clean version 0.01.

Let me describe what I did.

I downloaded the ck-clean and the cigwin programs.

I then put ck-clean into the cigwin folder.

I then dragged my save file to the ck-clean icon, and dropped it in there.

The program appeared to launch successfully, with the comannd prompt/"DOS" window opening and saying "reading save file." Then the whole text of the save file passed through the window to the end. So it looked successful. But afterward the save showed the same number of MB as it had before.

I also got some other programs, it looks like: ck-noop, ck-diff, and ck-gref. I can't figure out what they do. ck-errors I assume checks for errors.

I meant thread, not text ... but anyhoo. I am now eagerly awaiting you to construct a scenario where this tool (v0.02) will erase someone and thereby have an effect on inheritance.

I have question about size of save game file after removing.
I copied it to cywin\bin folder I done it with all ck-clean files too.
I dropped save game file into ck-clean.exe and then file reading was started.
But after all it's size satyed the same.

How to make it correctly?

The dead grandfather. Unless your earlier post means living relative instead of living parent.

An historic inheritance from the last direct Capet to the first Valois king would be impossible.

In fact, IMO, best thing is :
1. Remove dead childless characters
AND
2. Remove dead character without parents AND without any brothers or sisters.

You will understand with a picture i think... look :
Code:
                 [COLOR=DarkOrange]Philippe          ~          Diane
                               ┌──────┴──────┐

         │ │
    Robert Harald

character is dead and cleared
character is dead but always in savegame
character is alive.

as you see, At Robert's death, Harald should inherit, but ck-clean break the link-three between Robert and Harald.

Both Philippe and Diane has "more than one child with at least one living descendant", and so wouldn't be cleared. Back to the drawing-board :)

Only in agressiveness 0...

Ok, but Jean will (he have only one child with at least one living descendant). Then the link between Robert and Philippe/charles will be broken.

0 is the default, but yes - it can mess up your savegame pretty badly if you want it to on higher aggressiveness :D

You've got a point there.

I don't own CK, so I have no savegame to check - how much information is saved about each character's ancestors? Just the IDs of the parents?

EDIT: The above problem could be solved by stipulating that if someone fulfills the aggressiveness-0 requirement, none of their descendants in direct line down to the living descendant will be deleted. klas_a, are you listening in and making 0.03? ;) :)
