CK 2 not working on laptop (steam 2nd computer)

So I have a job that, at times, has free time.

I've been playing CK 2 a lot the past month, and finally decided to also install it on my laptop.

Everything seems fine (main PC steam offline mode, laptop online and downloaded it no problem) except when I go to start CK 2, I get the start up window (the one where you'd check mods and DLC), except there are NO DLC items in the window. I own all non-music DLC and most of the music (maybe all - not entirely sure) except for the EU4 converter.

When I click start, it just closes and does nothing.

The laptop is relatively new and has Windows 8, so perhaps it's a W8 issue? I don't really know (don't really like W8 so far).

Any help or ideas appreciated.

Please try installing:

First: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

After that: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328

Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
(If that doesn't do anything then http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 )

Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.

Yeah, a bit of further searching led me to the .NET stuff. I'm updating the laptop now - hope that is all it is.

Weird. It was the direct X.

Windows 8 does not come with DirectX 9.0x, only 11, so that's normal.
