And I want to see a system of militery access introduced when not crusading.

I think the team would have their hands full intoducing both these things in one patch though. The rebellion thing could partly be handled by treating rebel armies as of a different religion to their lieges.
Check the "province effects and improvements" thread - it might go half-way, at least. ;)

On the one tiny issue of coding, assuming Johan will have some time for this:

Introduce a new diplomatic option, called dynastic alliance.
It should work exactly like the standard alliance, but with the following changes:
  • Is only possible between independent rulers from the same dynasty, with the same religion, not having the trait kinslayer.
  • Allow rulers to have as many of them as they like, in addition to the one standard alliance. (After all, it shouldn't be to many possible.)

I'm not at all convinced that last part is true. If you check out the CK AAR in my sig, I've got some statistics on family numbers. By 1350, there were about 550 living males of my dynasty, sharing something like 100 titles between them. Granted, most of them were my vassals, and there was only one King, to wit, me. On the other hand, the Piast dynasty (also human-played) sat on the throne of no less than three major kingdoms.

My only request if we're able... my ONE request...

Expiration of claims. I don't care if it's the easy fix (claims not inherited below your own level) or the hard fix (claims have a date and expire after 50ish years, regardless of original claim holder).

I'd prefer the hard fix, but the easy one will work.

I say we have two kinds of claims, fabricated claims and dynistic claims. The first last for only a certain period of time, the second become "passive" which means that they can be ressurected in the future for a lesser cost than fabricating a new claim, though it still costs you some prestiege (though no reputation).

  • Add more nasty events to hurt excommunicated rulers. Some which simply remove those characters...

I like these. Especially the first two.

I suppose this would also fix the ridiculous claims everybody gets on everybody when exporting to EU2?

Actually, what I meant was that they shouldn't offer their allegiance - they could still be /asked/ by any liege.

Add mechanisms to ensure that when conquering a title of Duke during a war, you remain under your Liege and not transfer to the former Duke's Liege. The same transfer mechanism under peaceful annexation via inheritance should happen when the title is transfered by peace treaty - especially when you end up vassal of the Liege you're at war against.

For example, as it is currently:

- Count of A is vassal of B
- Duke of C is vassal of D
- Count of A is at war with C and D
- A conquers C
- A becomes vassal of D while being a war with D.

Instead, it should be:

- Count of A is vassal of B
- Duke of C is vassal of D
- Count of A is at war with C and D
- A conquers C
- A remains vassal of B as Duke of C, which is at war with D.

B) Gift events during Realm Duress periods, to simulate that Lieges try to bribe the loyalties of his vassals.

C) Add probabilities of declaration of war so that it becomes possible that a realm may have the choice not to declare war, especially when caught in wars against half her vassals.

D) Real private wars. :)

When multiple king titles are held, sons who are not the primary heir should insist on the institution of Gavelkind law.
Not sure about this from a historical perspective. If this gets in it should also have huge MTTH modifies for the later years.

Otherwise you can't have a single king of England, Ireland & Wales (let alone Scotland). England and Wales have really been under the same ruler ever since 1282.

In spain it would stop Castile and Leon uniting (as happened in 1233, and persisted for the rest of the game). It would also stop a slightly early unification of Castile & Aragon.

I'm also worried that this would make Italy and Germany split off too soon (whereas they stayed together for most of the first 200 years).

Is it desirable to stop Byzantium trying to reconqure countries (in particular I'm thinking of Bulgaria/Serbia/Southern Italy)?

Poland-Lithuania was also under a single ruler for the last hundred odd years of the game (although here I'm less sure of the reasons behind it).

Apart from the situation with Spain (just before the start of the game) & England/Normandy (on William I's death) & Italy/Germany (eventually) can you think of any examples where this acually happened?

France/Germany/Lotharingia?

Anyhoo, I do agree that 2 kingdom titles should be managable in general. Until we get a title-counting code change though, this would be the only means of countering kingdom-hogging.

And don't forget the Habsburg empire of Austria/Hungary/Bohemia/Castille/Aragon/Naples/Croatia/Burgundy... which didn't survive Charles V.

Other examples are the union of Spain+Portugal from 1580-1640, and the Kalmar union from 1397–1520.

1. a very simple one = a count can not have a count as vassal... so counts that take Muslim land, should not install vassal counts to their county. No - the land should be added to counts demesne - no matter what ! This way the succesfull counts could grow into dukes. There's off course the exception with courtiers from duchies or kingdoms, those will install counties that are loyal to their liege. Take notice, that under these rules a new county to a duke can grow in size and can claim a new duke title - making it pledge loyalty to the king. But we should try to find a way to let the count take first chance at creating the duke title instead of the duke ... and perhaps give the old duke a claim on the newly created duke title,

2. usurping now is really useless ! Most often you get enough prestige to just grab the claim. IIRC I usurped 2 claims during all the public beta test games ... really insignificantly low... I propose to let you usurp at 40%, 50% or 60% based on the combination of diplomatic skills =

high diplomacy = 40% requirement for usurpators,
middle diplomacy = 50% requirement for usurpators,
low diplomacy = 60% requirement for usurpators,

3. is it possible to differentiate between inheritable claims and non inheritable claims. F.e. trough marriage and blood lines + usurped claims = inheritable claim, a grabbed claim = non inheritable claim,

Spruce, to your second point:

Never less than 51%! How can you usurp a title you don't even own the land to do it? 40% is really extremly low. Think of that, when the Duke of Toulouse marries the daughter of the Duke of Poitou he would be able to usurp France! Would you like to see such lands? If it's too easy to claim in your opinion play Very Hard. There it would cost you more than 10 000 prestige to claim a title. With 51%, 60% and 66% I could live, but never less than 50%.

Liked your three points Spruce, but I join in with CSK about it might be a tad easy to usurp then. 51% instead for 40%, and it would be quite sweet.
