First seen (by me) in Aurora 4x, than in Distant Worlds - space civilian economy. Are we going to see civilians seeking and exploiting some opportunities like shortages of resources on other plantes or trade between empires?

We could take it a step further and allow a civilian economy of its own to develop, and anything done by the player is in the public sector, government-controlled economy.

Would be nice, but haven't seen anything like it in Stellaris to this point. Only thing that resembles a civilian economy is that, in some governments, POPs can move freely between plants.

So far, I get the impression that Stellaris will follow more in line with games like Master of Orion or Galactic Civilization, where the only ships you see moving about are either ones you control or ships other AI civilizations control - no private sector economy sitting on top of the rest of the game doing its own thing.

As a Distant Worlds player, I really liked how those devs executed the idea of a private sector economy and how the game integrates it with your ability to control the growth of your civilization; I'd love to see something like this done in Stellaris, though I didn't think the Stellaris devs were ever going down that route.

Yeah I absolutely agree, I just don't think that's what they had in mind. Would be cool though, because I feel like a private sector economy etc stimulates growth and the game feels like it truly is its own world (kind of like Victoria II). In EUIV, there is a problem that if you don't act or do anything, nothing will change (no growth etc). I hope this doesn't happen to Stellaris.

I wouldn't want anything as chaotic as DW had. However, a BASIC civilian system would be appreciated in DLC down the line.

Maybe trade ships would appear and follow trade routes pre-authorized by the player or a governor of the sector. POPs moving between worlds would be OK too, as long the the AI did some housekeeping and had them move in groups especially later in the game.

It's really tricky and something I think an entire DLC would need to focus on.

Civilian sector cartographers would be nice too. Few brave civilians wouldn't hurt if it's only spawned through rare event, instead of being spammed like civilian trade ships. Mapping gets tedious after a while, but in Stellaris's case finding artifacts and anomalies are part of the exploration fun. But researching them are scientists job, not mappers.
