I just did two runs as Sweden, one where I went fascist through referendum and the other trying to do it via a civil war.
I've never really done civil wars before and I was surprised to see how fast you actually switch, and that it doesn't actually harm you in any way. Doing the civil war I was fascist by July 36 without causing any tension, while doing the referendum I didn't flip until June 37. That's a pretty big difference.
Though I guess this is more effective with smaller nations since the rebellion isn't that big, but I still gotta wonder why more people don't do civil wars.

Those civil wars are quick and fun to play, but they tend to set you back a bit.

Last game I played was with one of the chinese warlords and I had a civil war with communists. Through bad luck they all went onto the mountains and were simply camping there It was a huge pain in the rear to root them out.

Don't you need to spend a lot of PP to have a successful civil war? That was why I didn't do it as Sweden.

Hi !

I'm curious how you did to launch the war so quickly ?

I tried with Denmark but it take quite a while as it starts with nearly 90% democracy and 100% stability.

As Sweden I don't do it cause you waste one of your two decent generals and half the fleet, which generates hundreds of naval XP in case UK declares war on you.

Also, I'm not quite sure you don't waste manpower - and that of course comes under assumption you do delete the whole of your army to then deploy 1 cav division doing all the job.

How the devil did you achieve the civil war by July 36 as Sweden?!

I've not tried it, but as I recall from looking at the screen that you only need something along the lines of 10% Fascist support to pick the option about civil war. Sweden starts with 8% if I remember correctly.

Something else I noticed playing another position is that you don't need the choose the 'peaceful transition' option to get the referendum later, that will show up automatically if you exceed 50% popularity. It makes me wonder why they have the decision for 75 PP to 'open a dialogue' or whatever the one that says 'peaceful transition' in the description is entitled. Is that perhaps how you can get the old Coup option with the Reign of Terror and I've not yet had that event pop-up before I get to the option for the referendum?

It seems that the "open the dialogue" options leads to other events where you can massively gain support for the party.

However it is not perfectly set at the moment. As i said in a previous post, i went through a bug with South Africa. I had the Fascist advisor but no option to do anything in the Decision System.
When i went through the autonomy process i ended with a autonomous fascist South Africa with nearly 75 - 80% support for the fascist party and .... still a democrat gov with no event to change it.

We also need stability below 50% to kick off the civil war. Since Sweden starts at 100%, this is neigh impossible and best to go peaceful route

It's shooting yourself in the foot: stability has its merits, and civil war will start automatically once your party is at 70% popularity (MTTH = 2 days IIRC). Gaining 70% party popularity is not only quicker then plunging stability to 50%, it also gonna cost you less PP and will be beneficial afterwards. So v0v

Ah, I did not know that, I never even considered the option. There's not enough Swedes for me to entertain the idea of getting any killed in a civil war, not with my plans for them when I play Sweden! My first two times trying out fighting the Soviets over Finland and then going back to Democracy and fighting the Germans I had to stop the final offensive twice to wait for the PP to change my draft rate, the last time I was about to go to Scraping the Barrel before the Axis thankfully capitulated right before I was about to be reduced to that indignity. Allies were worthless that game!

'Someone had to save the world.'
