I remember, in some of old dev diaries (~Heinlein path time) Paradox were talking about civil ships in a future DLC. "Civil ships will travel through star stystems of player and AI".

Why Paradox have forget about this idea now?

Sorry for bad egnlish.

It would be quite cool to just visually see civilian vessels inside more developed systems, representing a strong economy. These could be just grafically animated, without any real purpose, purely cosmetic. It would add to the immersion and shouldn't create to much addidional lag, as they are only animated when inside the system view.

But if you want to save location of civil ships each once when you open/close galaxy map, it will require some resources (without save-location you will see other locations of ships every time after close/open system map, it will spoil the impressions of game).

i still say i enjoyed the civil/federal economy/ship split from Distant Worlds: Universe. gawd what i wouldnt give for an updated version of that game.

heck sometimes i even just automated the empire and RPed myself as one of my little space captains, and rose through the levels getting bigger/better ships until i had a fleet :p

or did the same but as a pirate, and razed the galaxy like space Mongols >:D

but on a more related note, i just dont see the benefit of "civil" ships in the way paradox makes their games, just feels like it will be more micromanagement thats really just more expenses because at the end of the day actually keeping up with it is too much of a pain in the butt, and the half of it you have to hand over to sector AI or what have you will ruin the half you still control anyways

But if you want to save location of civil ships each once when you open/close galaxy map, it will require some resources (without save-location you will see other locations of ships every time after close/open system map, it will spoil the impressions of game).

Easy. Don't generate the ships until you look at a system. Then, when you look away, keep calculating them for a month or so, whatever makes sense, then stop. That way, unless you pause the game and look at every single system then unpause, you will only have a few systems worth of ships in memory.

And, for the pause and look at everything situation, you can set an upper limit, maybe 10 systems that it'll remember, max, then it'll forget the oldest. So unless you specifically make sure to remember where the ships were 11 systems ago and go back and check on them, you won't even notice.
