So in 1.4 your base civic values were X. So for example you had -10% ethics divergence for spiritualists. Now the fanatic version of this was -30% so 3X.
Now in 1.5 this has changed and fanatic versions only yield 2X value. E.g. +20% unity and +2 core systems for Pacifists but only +40% unity and only +4 core systems. Why isnt this +60% and +6 core systems?
I believe the old system was much more rewarding to specify into a fanatic ethos, now its not worth it imo and you would just a pick a third non-fanatic ethic beacause you will have much more options.
Please PDX revisit the values of the fanatic ethics.

When the game launched fanatic ethics were as they are now: only twice as powerful as the normal ethics. I always thought it was a stupid change, since I tended to prefer fanatic ethics anyway—making taking a fanatic ethic mechanically better than taking three regular ethics was just overkill.

I think they changed it for a miriad of reasons. The most important one probably techs not being ethos specific.

In the old version you had the tradeoff for taking 3 'lite' ethos, and getting the associated techs, versus fanatic ethos which gave a higher bonus and an extra ethos specific edict

The bonuses are lower but the ability to more tailor your government through civics I think MORE then makes up for the loss. I honestly feel more powerful with just the civics for my government due to the ability to tailor it to the play style I want. Not to mention things like living standards and other factors.

It may look like on paper it was a nerf in isolation but i see it more as a redistribution between all the systems and frankly a buff to every empire.

I am playing a game right now where i will have 17 core systems.... 17 (currently at 11/15 - terraforming the rest for colonization, last two from expansion when i get there).. Honestly i have missed sectors due to all the micro.

Is 'ethic blocks' on techs considering 'not being ethos specific'?
Not that there are many, AFAIK
I was thinking specifically about the techs that gave you buildings.
For example pacifism gating Paradise dome, ind ---> visitor centre, spir ----> symbol of unity etc...
There also were others like the commisariat, leader specific techs.

I am unaware of ethos restrictions in 1.5 though, care to name which ones you know?

I think spiritualists still don't get robots and materialists still don't get psionics. But I guess that's not quite the same as techs requiring a certain ethic. (In particular it's more of a point in favour of taking a fanatic ethic.)

Also fanatic ethics still have unique edicts.

Ah, that's:)
Specifically, robotics locked for spiritualists and hives, chemical bliss locked for hives (not that it meets our needs anyway), psionics for materialists
Maybe a few more that I missed

Well, it's not the same, no, but it's close to that, I guess

Its because in the old system the fanatic ethos weren't worth it most of the time before it got bumped to tripling. Unlocking more mechanics unique to ethos was almost always the better deal. Now things are different. Fanatic provides twice the empire attraction which if you play it right can parlay into better influence income and happier pops.
