This is my City killer... the info screen showed he was going to hit for 500 even before the crit.. would have been nice to see what it actually hit for but man that Ogre won the game for me easily... he took sooo many citys in 1 or 2 hits

yeah he's pretty handy for that too.. specially since with his items upgrades n buffs i had him at a movement rate of 10.. was easy to position to take out 3 mobs at time.. tho i used my turtle for killing multiple mobs more.. that and the healer + the vamp hero.. both had items to give them firestorm and will of grom gol.. the healer had some ability that reduced the cool down on those abilitys aswell.. she was a massive killer in the end..

Turn is not really that much of a factor though. If you look at the screenshot you can see there is not that may perks on the ogre. It is only level 11. Level determine show many perks and the only thing that changes when a hero is leveled. The rest is all buffs. A hero cna be level 11 around turn 100.

Look at the wiki. There are only 14 level-up perks for each type of unit. Level 11 is almost all of the perks. The OP's ogre is a powerful one.

The XP table on the wiki goes only as high as level 12. Is there a level cap? Has anyone got a level-14 Lord?

A hero can be level 11 around turn 100.
Perhaps, if you get lucky. My healer is level-8 on turn 105, but she came to me mid game.

Let's say you get a hero around turn 10, and took the Instructor perk, and got lucky with a halberdhall nearby to build the war university. That's about 200 xp by turn 100 (level 4-ish). You'll need nearly a thousand xp for level 11.

How much xp does a hero get from killing, assisting, and being adjacent to mobs?

Getting a level 11 lord by turn 100 would be quite an achivement :) According to the wiki a lord needs 380 xp for level 9, 530 xp for level 10 and 730 xp for level 11.

Taking AngleWyrms assumptions, assuming the hero was acquired on turn 10 that leaves 90 turns. The GM perk Instructor, the Master of War perk and assuming you take the Perceptive perk at level 3 (assume turn 20) that would give 80 turns x 4 = 320 xp and 30 xp for T10 to T20, so 350 xp from passive sources nearly enough for level 9.

Normal units get 4 xp for every attack they make and 2 xp for every attack they receive and I assume lords are the same. So in 90 turns the absolute maximum a lord could get would be 360 xp for an attack every turn, but this is highly unlikely what with moving and resting to heal an attack on half the turns would be more reasonable, so about 180 xp could come from attacking.

The unknown is how many times a lord could be attacked in the 90 turns available. If he's got really good resistances it is possible to milk the number of attacks and gain more from being attacked than from attacking. It can be difficult to persuad the AI to attack a very strong unit that will destroy it so unless they are missile attacks it might be hard to manufacture. Let's see how many attacks he's need to endure to reach Bored Peon's assertion on turn 100.

730 xp is required, 350 from passive sources and 180 from attacking leaves 200 exp which means 100 attacks, which is possible. So in a very intense game (nursemaiding the lord) and if you really set that as an objective it would be possible to reach level 11 on turn 100 with roughly half the xp coming from passive sources. But without the special circumstances it would take quite a lot longer

... Wait, 500 damage? Are we playing the same game???
Look at the starting stats of an Elder Ogre and its upgrade possibilities. Then remember than some modifiers are multiplicative in the game.

Never got to 500 (against cities) with an Elder Ogre, but that has more to do with my upgrade style. I prefer perks after a level upgrade that enhance durability than damage. That said I had damage 150 dealers on level 8/9 already, passing at least 3 damage boosters in the leveling up, so the 500 for me seem quite possible for a level 12 lord.

Way before the healer the Ogre is the single most important hero to get early in the game. By far. And the earlier you get him the better. That said I never saw lords arriving prior turn 20.

You can see from the screenshot in the first post that this ogre only does 183 normal damage and not 500. It gets a big bonus for attacking a city from its perks and by luck gets a critical hit. I can't see for sure what ground the city is on but it might be a swamp which I think gives a further big bonus. In fact, as the OP mentions, with all the bonusses and the lucky critical the ogre probably did a lot more than 500 damage, but the damage done is limited to what HPs are left for the target.

Actually it doesnt. Someone was just out to troll your thread by downplaying your screenshot by pointing out it is turn 329. I pointed out out how it is not very high level (assuming 11, was counting perks) considering it is turn 329 and a hero can be the same level AROUND turn 100. Then the troll comes back to argue on exactly how much xp can be earned by turn 100, completely missing the point he just made his original troll comment invalid.

It still makes a great screenshot no matter what the turn or level of the hero is. Too bad the actual damage done is limited by the hp of the city.

As for when lords appear it is completely random. I have seen them offered around turn 20 and not seen them until turn 50.
