After watching around 10 hrs of quills stream, it’s looking more like the traffic simulator from hell!

99% of his gameplay involves him just trying to manage the traffic. Build road, destroy road, build another road, destroy road, rinse and repeat over and over. Got so boring watching him trying to solve the behaviour of traffic.

Thoughts?

Conclusion: quill18 is hopeless at road management and city building

Have a look at skyestorm's videos. He does a much better job.

I only watched his livestream from Tuesday so I can't speak for today's or yesterdays. But on Tuesday I noticed his public transit system was not very functional. Sure he had a metro and some bus routes, but it didn't seem to be thought out or make much logical sense. I wonder if making a good public transport system will put a big dent in traffic.

This. Quill18 plays with the game, but he is as far from being efficient as possible. I saw till ep. 7, and he haven't even though about public transport, even when he noticed problems with trafic.

Well... the most important thing in a city builder is the traffic, and it seems csl will be a real challenge, but also Quill played quite weirdly at times and he spent some periods doing... I don't know what he was actually doing.

Good that's my favorite part. The traffic should constantly be a problem.

Yes but highways shouldn't turn into one lane roads just because you have some on \off ramps.

When there's heavy traffic and an exit gets saturated (what happened for Quill) after a short time a highway will be congested. It's annoying but it's what happens in real life too.

especially if you put triple on- and off-ramps on both sides of the highway like Quill does. Seriously wondering what he thought would happen :)

edit: it does reinforce my idea that decent on- and off-ramps should be a priority for the game post-lauch. The ramps are just tiny. Just remember, on real highways you'll have like a 300-600 meter merge lane for each on/off ramp.

I wholeheartedly agree. While I do enjoy watching his videos, I waited for him to start building public transport. And when he did, I just couldnt take it. So bad. " Here is a bus line connecting one factory to another and here is another that connects these two housing blocks..." No. But all in all, I think this is good for the gameplay. To build a well functioning city one must build a well functioning public transport system or end up with... errr.. Los Angeles :)

That's not even remotely what I was referring too, nobody uses the left lane if you have an exit ramp and they all try and merge to the middle lane (unless they are getting off), which is what was generating hwy traffic where there otherwise would have been minimal, quill's roadtardness aside it highlighted issues that do need addressing which are already highlighted in on threads.

That is usually the number one problem of any city - managing traffic, trying to get people out of their cars and onto public transport, walking, cycling. I'd say that is realistic.

This is what happens when there is no thought for the traffic system.

He had no public transport and the road network wasn't thought out.

Well now the traffic and its noise pollution caused an apocalypse in Quills stream (73k+ deaths or evacuations)

The zombie apocalypses, it's hilarious he doesn't even think to maybe pause while he's doing all that demo work. lol turns out he had drinking water pollution causing most of it.

I think you can avoid a lot of the weird stuff with the highways if you use a 2-lane 1-way road for your exits instead of the ramp. It's not ideal, but I believe it would make your roads more functional given the current game rules (which need some adjustment for sure).

2-Lane 1-way roads have a speed limit of 40-50 while the highway and on/off ramps have a speed limit of 80 so i don't think it would work as well as you seem to think.

Well, failing is good testing. Intentional or not.
Also stays true to average crowd / average player experience.

Better not let all the DDRJakes wreck the game's mechanics in public before release. Much less gut wrenching to watch minmaxers etc. after you have some hours of your own on the game.

Everyone who thinks the traffic is broken, based it of Quill, he says himself that he sucks at road building. Check out Skye Storm, his roads are much more logical and thought out better before.

Quill barely used mass transit and when he did, it was done poorly. His on/off ramps practically force cars into each other as well.

You have to think when you build roads. Roads are possibly the most important think in a city, like the veins in our body, make them wrong and the whole thing goes to ....
