Just a thought that came to me when I was playing multiplayer with some friends. I was playing democratic egalitarian while my AI neighbor played authoritarian (about one empire away). I had reached a point where my founder species could be found in almost every empires in the known galaxy.

The neighbor authoritarian began to abuse my founder species without my knowing. I also checked the slave market and what did I find? I find my species sold on market. I quickly bought them all, but I did not know who put them on market! How dare they? I suspected that AI authoritarian.

My founder species are highly valued due to the fact that they are fully ascended psionics with positive traits.

I just feel like there should be some relations penalty to those who abuse citizen species (slavery or purge), like a "humiliate" casus belli. That'd be fun.

What's next? Annexing the Space Crimea?

Anyway, I agree with the idea that the slaver empire should receive a relationship penalty if it possesses your pops, but anti-slavery war seems better as a generic way to solve this.

And, hopefully, someday making this a false claim would be implemented as well.

Forcing certain species laws through peace treaty would be fun. For example you definitely should be able to force residency level status for your species in the empire which mistreats them.

For the vassals and maybe even other types of subjects you could have a diplomatic action for demanding citizenship status for your race.

Yeah. And or maybe if you win the war, you get to take back ALL your citizen Pops. Your unemployment and housing issue might skyrocket, but that's the price I am willing to pay to rescue my people! :D

If that's too extreme of a reward, then I guess imposing residency or free from slavery for certain amount of years would do well too

This was a thing back before the war rework, I'd love to see it back. Basically a lesser version of the ideology war, which could be used for certain things. These war goals would be easier to achieve than impose ideology, because they would not alter civics. Possibly gate these behind egalitarian or xenophile ethics?:

Liberation: Forces an empire to end slavery and purging, if the empire has any slavery civics they are replaced. Any empire with citizen AI can use this to force AI citizenship as well.
Worker's Movement: Empire is forced to adopt social welfare as well as liberation effects, and (requires shared burdens civic)

It would be great if you were also able to bring this issue to the Space United Nations which Martin has talked about previously. I really hope they implement this in some way in the diplomacy update.

Perhaps it could be a civic, which allows your people to be considered blessed or chosen, so you can go kill other nations who abuse or enslave them.

Or maybe a faction pressure? So that your xenophobic and egalitarian pops get upset when your citizen populations are enslaved by other races and given enough pressure might demand certain actions (eg: embargoes, war, etc)

It might not be appropriate for all ethics to have these abilities, as I can see some not caring what their founder race are up to in other places, because they view everyone as just cogs in a wheel.
