Way too expensive for what it is. Natural Disasters were included for free in the Anno games.... And they didnt let you pay €6 for a few stadiums.

I just got a mail from ubisoft offering Watch Dogs 2 at -34%. Ubisoft of all people!

Grey market it will be

I can't see why people see this expansion as "useless" and "unnecessary", especially from the die-hard city-building crowd (SimCity 3000 is a better example of what this aims to achieve, not SC4). This expansion is good if you want to turn your Cities: Skylines into an actual game, with challenges to face - it didn't just add in disasters, it added in the ability to create new scenarios (EDIT: free with the latest patch), with rules to abide by to win / lose the scenario that the editor has set up for the player. Trust me, there may not be many at the moment, but the workshop is going to fill to the brim with these thanks to this feature. This expansion effectively turns C:S into something more like a "game" than a sandbox experience, which is a good thing (that sandbox experience is still around if you get tired of doing scenarios).

Yes, in SimCity 4, you didn't have disasters occurring naturally - you spawned them yourself. However, this expansion has that extra thing that SimCity 4 didn't have (which previous SimCity's had before SC4) - naturally occurring disasters, ones which you don't manually spawn. In C:S, you can manually spawn them if you want to have a bit of fun, but you can also crank up the disaster threat level and have to fend off disasters that spawn themselves. Proper warning / defensive measures need to be taken into your city planning to keep it from being destroyed. Because of this, you can actually fend off against naturally occurring disasters - the way other city-building games have handled disasters in the past was dreadful in regards to having measures to combat against them, which this game is the first to try and fix.

What's so "useless" and "unnecessary" about that? I mean, if you want your game to just be a piss-easy ride to the top every time, then in that case it is, but a lot of us want a bit of a challenge in our games, therefore making it very useful and necessary to us.

To those who want more depth to city-management in the form of transport / industry / politics, they've already heard you hundreds of times - just wait your turn.

scenarios are in the free patch.

The "Natural Disasters" expansion's development theme wasn't just about disasters, it was about turning it more into a game / cranking up the difficulty for players who found C:S to be too easy / boring as a sandbox. So, scenarios were just a small part of that development cycle, which they decided to release for free, much like how other games, such as ArmA III, conduct their business practices - they released smaller features which were related to their DLC's for free (e.g. "Helicopters" - Shooting from vehicles was designed for it, and released for free, "Marksmen" - Bipods were designed specifically for the new marksmen weapons, and released for free as well).

You're right in the sense that it doesn't come with the paid element of the expansion, but it does come with the free element - which is in the form of the latest patch.

To those who want more depth to city-management in the form of transport / industry / politics, they've already heard you hundreds of times - just wait your turn.

They have heard hundred times but never reacted ! Basically we have the same simulation engine as at release day one of C:SL with all it's flaws. They never touched anything to change it.
Not even the biggest failure when loading CSL and the game crashes (because of lot of workshop assets) or crashes when exit the game CO were able to fix it.
Instead, they let this to a modder to fix it - after more than one year and countless posts ! In case you don't know what I mean, I am talking about the "Don't crash" mod.
This was one of the biggest letdowns for me that they just ignored this epic failure, although it was apparently easy to fix, if I see the mod.
This and that they just took over the old fashioned happiness based simulation engine from Simcity 4 and didn't take a more modern approach to simulate a city (a wealth based simulation).

And taking all this into consideration, the disaster DLC was more than unnecessary. Such things you can make if you have nothing else to do.

Hi! Thank you for your feedback. I am happy to tell you we actually have done something about this issue and Don't crash mod should not be needed anymore :)
All the best to the modder thale5 who noticed this issue and the problem came to our attention!

While I am appreciating your efforts to fix this long-time problem, I find it not acceptable to praise the modder thale5 that he brought the problem to your attention.
You can only praise him that he finally fixed a problem that was already brought to your attention long long time ago and should have been fixed by you long time ago !
It's not funny how you give the facts a false colour, this problem was mentioned in countless threads at least a few weeks after release of C:SL and not only since July 2016 when thale5 came out with his mod.

hm.. i`m a bit disappointed about the DLC..
Of course its cool to see your cities getting destroyed but i think it would have been better when more smaller disasters were implemented into the game..

I mean it's so unrealistic that a meteor hits a city - when you heard about this last time?
It should be something what is really really rarely happen!!
I don`t like when a large district of your hard built city is destroyed.. yes it`s fun watching it, but after that i will load the savegame again...

What i mean with small disasters?
for example (just ideas):
- plane crash (larger destroyed area, maybe hard to reach, fire spreading, you have to send the firetrucks like in SIMCITY)
- car accidents (this leads to blocking a certain street for a while)
- broken water pipe - leads to flooding an area/street, make buildings unstable
- broken bridge..
- chemical explosion where the houses in the affected area lose their level 5 status and become grey and shabby for a longer period

this all doesn`t impact the whole city but brings much more "life" in our streets or the city in my opinion. Of course, it shouldn`t be something what gets on your nerv
by only clicking through this events!

I agree that the disasters are somewhat over the top, but then again you can control their impact too by running them manually, and too this is a game where we can do the crazy things too. Sadly the alien invasions and volcanos are missing at least this time around. Your other ideas are great and I'm sure these kinds of things, along with aliens and volcanos, could be implemented in the future perhaps by content creators, or even CO as additional add-ons so in a sense what we have now is only the tip of the iceberg as they say.

On the city destruction... My only suggestion is to save beforehand so that any destruction can be undone if it doesn't suit your liking. This is a great advantage over the real world where a massive disaster can release mayhem and obliterate a city with no other way to overcome the end results.

I do actually agree with this, it'd be great if some smaller / more common disasters were implemented like the above suggested were eventually implemented some time.

the title of the DLC was "natural disasters", neither plane nor car crashes etc are natural.

the title of the DLC was "natural disasters", neither plane nor car crashes etc are natural.

The guy's post was stating that he was generally dissatisfied that it was only natural disasters that were implemented with the latest expansion when it didn't have to be just natural disasters - the expansion could have easily just been named "Disasters" and added a few artificial / unnatural ones as well.

But, I'm just saying, some time later down the road, it'd be nice to see those - not necessarily as part of this expansion.

hey metacritical - yes that's the point, the developers limited the field of the disasters topic by saying "no, only natural disasters"
So we got the exaggerated tsunami and meteor.
I mean it could have been more realistic content included. I don`t believe that disasters will be the theme in another future DLC again.

Also the radio function. It`s a great thing, but implemented without "love for the details"
It would have been so cool, if radio broadcasting would have been a milestone what you have to reach in your city.
Then you have to place a radio station building in your city. Or two, or three...
And the music make certain people happy or whatever..They could also send out warnings for traffic jams,
so that they find another alternative route.

Is it possible to revert to an older version? I have some mods which will not be updated in the near future and my current city doesn't work without them. Normally Paradox Games have all major patch version as a "Beta" version availabile so everyone can rollback at their leisure but it seem that CO didn't implement this. Is there an other way?
