What do you mean updates should be optional? So far everything is working better for me since today's update! I haven't tried my mods yet because I'm still having fun with scenarios, but my assets are on (I've only got about 50) and my games are loading faster today. Everything has been fine over the last hour or so that I played since the new update.
I'm sorry to see others are having issues still. (the Steam Discussion board is alive with gripes!)
I'm happy though that CO seems to react in a timely manner to major bugs and issues. I don't imagine game developing and all that it entails is an easy thing. I have been about 80% happy overall with CO and Cities Skylines, some of the frustration is to be expected, I will agree that updates should be optional, so I do get some frustration there. I suppose there's a reason they are not? Anyway, thanks to the Devs for the latest update! It has worked for this user...
NOW...just please get onto making more bridge styles for the game! I heard they are on your "to do" list! I'm ready for them and have been for almost a year now!![]()

What do you mean updates should be optional?
On steam you can turn updates offNot sure what explanation you want here...Optional : involving an option: not compulsory.
Optional...meaning you shouldn't have to update if you don't want to update. The complaints I sometimes read about are that the Steam updates your game and afterward the game is broken or otherwise bugged and it takes a lot of work to fix things, which is a headache. Steam gives you 3 options, to automatically update, update at launch or make a CS the priority to other games. There is not an "option" to NOT download updates. As on your computer, where you can NOT update Windows, or on iTunes, where you can choose to NOT update your player...etc.
You get updates if you own the game and you can't tell it to NOT update the game. There are tricks I've read about to avoid updates, but that seems like an unnecessary hassle when you shouldn't have updates forced upon a game you purchased if you don't want the update.
How will that be a practical long term solution? On steam you can turn updates off
I don't see that option anywhere in my Steam settings. Only about setting a time for downloads. I looked through everything, so I guess I am missing something. Besides I don't want to turn them off because I personally don't mind them as long as they work. This last update after Disasters fixed most of my problems so I'm good. I was just saying I think one should have the option to keep an older version of a game if they want and I based this on the complaints of others about updates. After reviewing Steam I didn't see an option to avoid updates either on Steam or on my CS account. On steam you can turn updates off
I like options in general and don't like things forced on me.
I can sympathise, but the System Requirements as stated on the Store page are quite clear: Network: Broadband Internet connectionAgreed. I used to work for weeks at a time in a remote location. Internet was super slow. I'd be ready for a relaxing evening gaming, and I'd find it was updating, and would sometimes take more than a day to get the update, and couldn't play until it was downloaded. And I was playing single player offline. (GTA5 was awful for this. Huge multiplayer updates, which I don't even play, but I had to wait anyway.) You should have more control over updates.
You wish to play a game where there is poor connectivity or no broadband, then it would have to be a game that doesn't require broadband.
