I wanted to ask about the different employment sectors in Cities: Skylines. Will there be a wide range of employment sectors such as Industrial, Hi-Tech, Office and Financial sectors? If so will there be a balance in different employment sectors or will it depend on an individual's education?

How do industries make their money?

I don't think that they do, as long as they have workers and somewhere to import and export goods they will operate and pay taxes. It's doubtful that the game calculates the income and expenditure of industry and determines whether profit margins are enough to sustain the company. The same most likely applies to citizens as well.

I remember they mentioned that in the AMA. Commercials profits from sales per unit of goods. Industry profits from production per unit of goods. Those profits also means more taxes naturally. I wish industry couldn't sell its production unless the world market demand isn't enough like in Victoria and/or if commercials couldn't afford to buy them due to their lack of profits. Actually I want to have all the economic system IRL with a simplistic approach like supply/demand, wealth levels which are effecting demand rates, lack of goods etc.. But it seems it's too much to want for now.

AFAIK for now it's just bound to production numbers for industry to make nice profits weather they sell it or not.

Ok, if growth is based on demand, what's required to fulfill the demand? Does it matter if there are any employees, do they produce a fixed amount of goods per hour they are working at the factory?

Why is the economic model/RCI so secret? Who cares about grafic and curved roads, if the economic model is flawed the game wont be fun to play.

Do the industrial buildings not level up like residential? I would assume that level 1 would be dirty, whilst level 3 would be high tech? Is this not the case?

expect the RCI to work in a very similar way to SC4, at least it looks somewhat like that. The economic model probably doesn't need to be in as much depth as you are expecting for the game to work.

Pity! Encouraging certain production, observing wealth levels, creating necessary conditions and more jobs, regulating businesses are part of the city management. Why all fancy modern city builders are ignoring these aspects and generally in-depth economy?

I still wait a Victorian Production EP post-release! :)
