We've already written reasons why Unity is better in the thread. The main ones are the experience of developers with it and the ease of use for moders
What about experience of players, who will again need 10+ mods just to make it look okay... Hopefully there wont be ridiculous limitations on agents, nodes etc. I am just disappointed. And sad. Waited for this moment for years.

Leading the entire tech industry? I just want to quickly address is that Apple, AMD, Nvidia, and Intel all rely on TSMC. That stands for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. They are responsible for making a third of your computer.

Yeah, I do have a set preference: Not Apple.

No, I do not hate on Apple users or iPhone users. Just people who buy Macs when they could get something cheaper or better.

Mac is not the gaming computer. It is the workstation computer. Never has Apple made or planned on having gaming Macs.

I just want to point this out: Does CS2 support PS4 or Xbox 1? No. Why? Because they aren't going to last that long in comparison to PS5 or Xbox series S/X.
You forgot about the chip fabricators that TSMC uses. these days all build by ASML. other fabricators are all at least 10 years behind. just a small Dutch company responsible for most chips fabricated these days.

I think it depends more on the developers themselves than on the engine. Unfortunately, the experience of recent Paradox interactive games shows how empty and outdated they are. I'm already upset that my language will most likely not be in the game, so I'll try to make a mod and translate the game myself. But I hope that the developers will have a game full of mechanics and good optimization at the start, otherwise we'll have to wait a couple of years for 3-4 DLC to be released

The same could be true if they used Unreal. Cities: Skylines is a simulation game. Cities: Skylines 1 is mostly limited by the poor optimization of the code running the simulation calculations. This would be the case no matter what engine was used.
Saying this, keep in mind that when Cities: Skylines was released, Colossal Order was less than 13 people. They did most of the development with 9 people. And that is everyone who worked there, not just the developers. (*) That is an incredibly small team size to create something as amazing as Cities: Skylines. Now, both Unity and Colossal Order have come a long way in the last 8 years. The team expanded significantly. Modders have been hired by CO. Unity has improved everything from core performance to development workflows. I see no reason at all for your pessimistic outlook. Now don't get me wrong, there for sure will be limitations again for agents and nodes. But those limitations would exist regardless of the game engine used. Also, I do expect significantly higher limits.

(*) sources:
1) myself - I attended paradox press conference where they announced After Dark at Gamescom Cologne and had a chance to talk to CO devs.

Unity is clearly committed to supporting Apple Silicon so it should be possible. I guess it's a business decision about the size of the Mac marketplace. PDX have said in the past that they intend to drop Linux support in the long run because the sales don't justify the costs (although the Steam Deck has been released since they said that, which will hopefully make them reconsider).
I really hope they will keep supporting Linux. I've been playing C:S on Linux right from the beginning, got all the main DLCs and have really enjoyed all of it. I basically don't play anything else but C:S since it has been released. And I have the same plans for the sequel.

So not having this on Linux would be very sad, although I understand supporting Linux has always been a bit of a charity work. But I presume/hope even if the Linux sales were very likely the lowest it paid off the effort.

Linux users are definitely extremely lucky having Valve on our side. And Steam Deck might just be the reason for Colossal Order to keep supporting Linux and I so much wish it will be the case .

Allow starting map settings to be more customizable. Let me change the default building theme, and climate zone. Don't fix to map. I want to do a winter desert map w/ African default buildings. Let me set that on spawn. Or Tropical Valley w/ Korean content themes as default. Also, allow ability to have multiple start and/or choose any tile you start from that has outside road access in the tile (aka has main road passing through it). So much of each city was dictated by where it starts. I like milestone unlocks when playing so I did not like having to use cheats to unlock map form beginning to start somewhere different. It just feels wrong, but then your entire playthrough is dictated a lot by the starting tile.

In general, just more options to customize the map on starting.

Building Theme Manager (or District Manager) editor needs to be included in base screen (especially for console players). Put it on start screen and incorporate this fully through-out game this time. I want to be able to set my own themes by picking the buildings from vanilla to content creator packs that spawn in zoned districts. Whack a mole isn't fun, but random spawning gives a more realistic feel than placing all buildings myself. If I want to do 2x2 heavy residential so it looks like small apartment complex in a single home area; I want to be able to set a theme; paint it, then walk away; and only buildings I wanted out of those selected spawn. District themes was a feature that was completely under-utilized in the game.

Please incorporate all new DLC systems into the base game. 1's structure was entirely too disjointed. The DLC just simply unlocks more items that utilize a DLC's features. 1st; this helps improve game and its play flow. It also teases content to players who haven't bought it (encouraging DLC buys); it also keeps older building relevant as new systems are added that may duplicate an older buildings role. Key is that y'all also update older game assets and content creator packs to work with new DLC systems as they are added. I feel like paying for this DLC is paying for that work (not just new content). Making old content work w/ new system = new content to me. I hope y'all adopt a more similar mindset.

Example is Parks from 1; city parks should have been free w/ rest being unlocked in DLC (golf course could have replaced ). Then original parks should have been made to function & work on paths and be used in any park adding attractiveness and tourism to it.

Be able to filter props that spawn on buildings in some way. IDK what the best approach on this is, but I don't want that ugly ass clown spawning and ruining a good building spawn just b/c the only fix is bulldozing the building to get new props.

Also more variety in wording of building and signs. Please have the sign verbiage be tied to other props on building (especially signs) and be more verbose. Instead of 10 Big Bites spawning; have it pull Big Bites, Small Sliders, Big Grub, etc. w/ the neon prop sign reflecting this verbiage change. It allows game to use 1 building design but to have lots of variety. This is much simpler fix to me than having to download 10 different building props. Especially on console where community assets are limited. This was especially an issue on brick and mortar buildings; where the brick and mortar downtown would look great except you'd get same building w/ same exact signage. It makes sense that building spawn is same (treat is a 1 large storefront), but repeat signage ruins it. Example if it selects "Burger", it labels building "Small Sliders" & then chooses "Burger" or "Sandwich" props for building b/c those props have labels tied to it that it logically works logically with name.

Bookstore is another. It could spawn "Bookstore," "Tech Store," "Lawn Store". All generic but could use that building asset. Would be cool if I retyped name of building the signage would reflect that. If I wrote "Brauug's Burgers" - Neon sign would update to those letters. IDK if that is something possible tech wise; but would improve all assets to me.

Alternative; give us the ability to update buildings props, trees on all static items like we could update trees on the roads instead. Ideally, like Buses have a drop down, it would be nice if we could select a building after it spawns & it would have listed each prop spawn point listed (and item chosen), and we could select and change them out. If that is cumbersome, this could be controlled by having quality labels (lots of different labels per prop spawn point type) and/or managed in theme manager + RICO/BOB in-game manager. Maybe in addition to selecting house we could also define what props could or could not spawn in the zoned area based on the various spawn point types selected in district theme.

Static buildings and/or all buildings need ability to have all RICO (or RICO +) settings instead of being static 1 type. A building could have for example (1-2 floors commercial, 20 Resident Slots, and +## tourism attractiveness). We could have low density residential sometimes spawn w/ commercial slots to reflect work from home jobs/garage businesses (i.e. mowing or handyman business that is run out of someone's home). This would also allow policies in game to enable to disable this in a district.

Add a City Painting layer so i can define the city; especially (if using Unreal 5 and we have large maps); so I can define multiple cities. Related to this; add Gov layers to public buildings. City/State. Police building in city would patrol City area. State police would cover entire state (map).

Anyways, very very excited for 2.

My One And Only Wish for Cities: Skylines II

I have no desire to either build or manage a city, but I would dearly love to be able to roam a user-created city, at my leisure. I have been able to download (and use) only two such user-created cities within the confines of my copy of Cities: Skylines, but these are “vanilla” cities, without many of the features that provide realism to the city. I am thus hoping (without much assurance of that hope being fulfilled) that Cities: Skylines II will provide the means to download any and all of the forthcoming and magnificent user-created cities, regardless of size, mods and DLC used, so that I can explore them via “First Person”, without the burden or necessity of the challenges of expanding or managing. This would require a. front-mounted camera view of walking, or riding in a train, tram, monorail, bus, truck, car, ship, or plane. I could then exult first hand in viewing, exploring, and admiring the variety of dazzling metropolitan creations of the talented city builders. Yes, this would be SO much more immersive, controllable, and enjoyable than simply watching a Youtube video.

My dream is not too far-fetched. As a user of another (Steam) game called PGA Tour 2K21, I am able to play golf on hundreds, if not thousands, of incredibly realistic user-created golf courses. If they can provide user-created courses to be played and enjoyed by those of us who are not interested in the creative aspect of the game, why not Cities: Skylines II?

Hey, you guys at Colossal and Parodox, just think of the possibilities. You would open up the game to people like me who would love to just immerse ourselves in these fabulous metropolitan creations, and explore every street and byway, and every structure and landscape, while in the midst of live traffic and moving conveyances, and with people everywhere simply going about their business. There would be no end to the variety and creativity of these realms, and no end to the sheer delight of discovering their wonders. Let’s make all the City creations available for everyone to enjoy. Come on….you can do it!

Well, in CS1, you have all the DLCs installed, you just don`t have access to them. if it's the same in CS2, this mode is quite real

I think you are looking for the wrong game.

If your desire is just to explore modern, high quality and well recreated cities I'll suggest to buy Gta 5 or Watch Dogs 2\3

I think we should wait and see what the game is actually going to look like before we make assumptions like this. As several people have pointed out, the devs behind Unity have not been simply resting on their laurels but have been making improvements to the game engine. While the graphics quality might not quite be up to what was in the trailer, I find it hard to believe that there won't be some improvement.

The desire to walk around, as you say, is a driving force for buying the various DLCs. If you have a little money but a lot of patience, you can wait for the bundle packs for sale, which come from time to time. The releases of DLCs from time to time, is the deciding factor for bringing in enough money for the company, so they can develope C S 2 as good as we want it to be. No money in means no C S 2 out.

What about experience of players, who will again need 10+ mods just to make it look okay... Hopefully there wont be ridiculous limitations on agents, nodes etc. I am just disappointed. And sad. Waited for this moment for years.
The ability to mod the game is what makes the game better and better. Beyond what the game developer do. Being able to mod the game and explore mods are important driving forces for many players. If that possibility was taken down, it would not happen. With less sale, and less money to the developers to make C S 2 as good as we want it to be. And players do not get C S 2 as good as it could be.

Make it look ok? C:S came out 8 years ago, its a city builder, a strategy game, its never going to look like a Forza, or a call of duty or something like that, besides most "realistic" mods just look overly sharp and or bright, and lack any character for the sake of draw distance,

Wondering if we will be allowed to mod and enhance the agents especially the "citizens".
I wouldn't mind spend some time creating a mod that might require high end system but give a very realistic semi adaptive NPC/AI to those who will have the grunt power on their PCs to do so.
