City-Building Game Lets Players Build Fields for Football Club Barcelona, Chelsea Football Club, Juventus Football Club and Paris Saint-Germain

STOCKHOLM - Oct. 18, 2016 - Paradox Interactive, a publisher of goal-oriented games, today announced the addition of several real-world football clubs to the in-game stadiums for Cities: Skylines, available today in a new add-on, “Stadiums: European Club Pack.”

Cities: Skylines, the award-winning city-building game from developer Colossal Order, was updated this summer with the ability for players to add sports arenas to their growing digital demesnes. Now, with the European Club Pack, those stadiums can play host to players’ favorite real-life football clubs, taking on the appearance of their home stadiums from the real world. The European Club Pack includes the stadiums, colors, and logos of Football Club Barcelona, Chelsea Football Club, Juventus Football Club, and Paris Saint-Germain, and is available today for $5.99.

See the teams taking the in-game fields in a new trailer:

The European Club Pack works in concert with the free “Match Day” expansion which was released for free in June 2016, which allows players to build massive sports venues into their cities and reap added revenue while handling the new challenges of game-day traffic. Now, in-game crowds can flock to see their favorite football clubs in action and enjoy a day at the arena in style.

Players can pick up the European Club Pack today at https://www.paradoxplaza.com/cities-skylines-stadiums-european-club-pack

Match Day is available for free at http://store.steampowered.com/app/456200/.

inb4 "no real madrid" rant.

Great idea though. Much appreciated.

EDIT: You should probably have an indoor arena pack too.

It'll be interesting to see how popular this turns out to be.

EDIT: especially considering there's quite a range of stadiums in the steam workshop

Nice optional feature for fans of said clubs and therefore a good thing to offer the customer. Since said clubs also milk ANYONE with licence fees in my opinion WAY overpriced. But also totally legal with no trademark issues as Colossal Order had covered this for us. I would expect mods shut down because of property and branding issues for doing similar stuff. For me this is a 'nice to have' totally optional mod. I, however, won't buy it. Neither a football fan nor especially fan of one of those clubs depicted. Even if Bayern Munich would show up for us Germans - I loathe that club, too. ;)

But in fact: a nice and good thing to offer the customer.

I'm a footy fan, and I must admit, even if my team was included, I still wouldn't buy this.

But anyway, you're probably right. It's a nice little option for some footy fans I suppose.

Thank you for the free Match Day, but this... four licensed stadiums for $6, I have doubts.

Anyway, do you intend to go further with this sport dynamic? I'd love to choose between different types of sport arena (baseball, basketball, hockey, ...).

What a silly way to spend money... not just the 5.99$ , but also for licensing.

I do not want to play the party-pooper or eternal sceptic, but I would guess the following is true:
While it might be easy to program more assets, the main problems are the licensing issues. AAA Sports clubs tend to be very greedy when it comes to merchandise and licensing. By doing NFL for USA or basketball, CO would have to cope with the regarding sports companies holding the licence. This is expensive. Very.
This might result in more mini-DLCs for comparable $ - which in turn would attract people annoyed of 'Paradox charging $$$ for everything' or people thinking of them wasting worktime for bettering the game and instead 'milking' the user with eye-candy. So...doing a well-intended thing can be understood totally wrong and cause BAD publicity instead of good.
Worst case: you are a collector and want the game complete and ask yourself 'why the heck must I spend money on THAT?'

My 2 cents.

P.S.: I am not against the feature at all - it is nice. I am just sceptical whether we would see more of those mini-DLCs concerning the licensing fees.

Well, for myself, when I ask for more different types of stadiums, I do no think about licensed ones.
Clearly, adding those kinds of licensed assets to the game is a strange path taken here by CO. Maybe this will please some players, but... meh, really, it seems weird to see such a dlc. So I won't buy this one, and won't buy similar others.

However, I like the idea of a bigger sport/activity centered dlc. It could add a fun dynamic, in my opinion.

Strange yet somewhat cool DLC. Though I'm a tad annoyed its another cosmetic DLC, those stadiums are really nicely done. It's a good thing that Natural Disasters is in the works or there might be a lot of upset fans here.

Those who are talking about Workshop stadiums might fail to note that those stadiums do not use the game day mechanics and as a result you won't see game-day traffic simulated with those. Also you'll see stuff like pedestrians walking with their dogs on the football pitch.

  • Handle the increased traffic to your stadium on match day
Good idea with adding stadiums. While I am not the biggest fan of football myself it's certainly an interesting feature for a city.
I hope this additional traffic is not as extreme as everything else in the game. I have a small town where in reality you would expect to see a hearse every fortnight, yet six hearses with a capacity of 10 coffins each can't cope with carrying away the dead. One would expect a housefire once a year but here two full firestatons are not enough because after playing a few years each house must have burned at least twice.

For my town with 18,000 cims (a small town like Tullamore) I need three six-lane motorways going in and out and I still have traffic jams so I don't want to imagine what traffic a full Camp Nou with nearly 100,000 spectators will cause.

Anyway, good idea, nicely designed stadiums which make a town unique and a new challenge as well.

Thanks for creating such additional updates and content. It's always appreciated to see something new.
