With the new Airports DLC, I have built a cargo airport which has a cargo terminal - working, a first Large Cargo Airport Road - working, but when traffic seems to overload these, I have added a second Large Cargo Airport Road but no traffic is using it, it just queues for an available stand on the others. Screenshot attached, with roads on to show taxiway arrows,

I am sure if you built an airport of the same layout you would get the same result. I do have a 178Mb MP4 of 2 minutes of operation, maybe too big for forum attachments. What to do with it?

I would say the current stand allocation in the released DLC is not dynamic enough, so despite a slight rejig of the taxiways and extending the airport, 3 runways now in my current city and more stands, there is still queueing for particular stands whilst other go unused. I suspect someone will come out with a mod that does more dynamic stand allocation for cargo aircraft.

Thats well over supplied for a city of 250k dude. Or you need more runway to lane more planes

I really do think that there are a couple of quick fixes that would really stop the deleterious effects of the cargo facilities. I hope the Devs can take this under consideration!

1. Notice how the aircraft stack up whilst queuing at random spots (end of runway, taxiway segments)? Have this happen in each stand, whether passenger or cargo. This is unrealistic, yes, but the amount of planes coming in and the amount of gates we could reasonably fit are far fewer than a real international airport anyway!

2. Have city service vehicles be able to reach the airport cargo train station when it's on an internal cargo road.

3. If a plane is returning to its originating cargo stand, despawn it without having it hold up traffic on the taxiways.

---

The long-term solution is of course for there also to be allocation to "first available slot." Right now there's no practical way to build an airport as the aircraft grab all the connection slots and cause us to lose our precious resources and tourists.

As far as I can tell, cargo exports care only for one thing; the distance from the cargo stand to the take-off runway. Because of this, the cargo stands closest to the take-off runway gets virtually all the traffic, and stands further away remain forever unused.

Only when I created a bit of a diverging 'tree branch' pattern where every cargo stand was the exact same number of tiles away from the entry to the nearest runway did the aircraft flights spread out evenly across the cargo stands.

But that is also part of the issue with the new cargo airports, mine are only exporting, leading to all my commercial areas failing "Not enough Goods". I have gone to "unlimited goods" mod for the time being until this is fixed.
