Modder here,

Dear Devs,

Do i only need the _i textura map? or are there new maps working in there?

thanks in advance :)

Joined just to say how keen I am for this EP ^_^

Couple of things though - Will Taxis clog our mass transit like crazy and make it even more difficult to get everyone where they need to go? Or will they more so replace some of the existing traffic to keep it balanced?
Can we create roads with bike lanes? Or do bike lanes have to be a seperate entity, perhaps running alongside the road? If so, will we be able to zone along bike lanes?
Will Cims be able to go swimming in the "beach" zones, just for funsies?
Keen for dev diaries :)

COLOGNE (Gamer.no) Cities: Skylines were a huge success following its launch in March this year, with over one million copies in just five weeks. That the game would be so successful was a surprise to the developer Colossal Order, a small Finnish developer studio of fourteen people, who previously only had developed trafikksimulatorene Cities in Motion. Now the studio in front of its first major expansion pack for Cities: Skylines. The package has been significantly greater after the original game sold so well, and Colossal Order want to give a proper upgrade to the game. In After Dark the night will fall upon your city, while the possibilities of what you can do becomes larger.

Two budget

Originally would not Colossal Order implementing a night and day cycle. They could not figure out how such a thing would work optimally, it may be nothing more than a visual overhaul. It would not be enough that the sun went down and the starry sky peeked ahead. After many requests from players, as well as fine time to figure out how they could do it, they decided and chose to let the darkness be the focus for its next expansion. The day cycle will be free for all when the update launches, but all other extra features you must pay for. When night falls over the city is changing activity levels significantly. Your citizens remain indoors, stores closed, the traffic thinned out, and people are home from work. If they go out there to soak up some culture or meet friends at the coolest nightclubs. The lights come on where there are people, but it's obvious that things are a bit more relaxed than usual. To exploit the dead of night to its fullest, you now have two different budget type to juggle: one budget for the night and one for day. This gives you greater control over what might happen in your town and when. Garbage can now, for example, only take place at night to benefit from that roads are less congested, and its own night buses can carry party loving citizens home safely. It creates not only a city that feels more realistic and vivid, but expands your own capabilities as a player so that you can create just the city you want.

New specializations

An important aspect of Cities: Skylines were you able to determine the various specializations for the industrial areas of your order to exploit nearby natural resources. In After Dark expand these specialized capabilities of the commercial areas, which now specialize in leisure activities and culture. Shops replaced with nightclubs, casinos and restaurants so you can easily create your very own, personal Las Vegas. I am very excited to see the downtown area of my city put its gaudy mark on the night sky with neon signs and lights. It is expected lots of beautiful images of cities at sundown. It is expected lots of beautiful images of cities at sundown. It should also be implemented a beach specialization for the commercial areas yours. Exactly how this should look like is not known yet, but the plan is to let you extend your city completely out of the water. To do the coast to a new natural resource, with people bathing, driving boat and fisherman on the shore.

Meanwhile hope Colossal Order that this will remove the little ugly rocks at the water areas and makes cities a little more aesthetically prettier.Streamlines your townThe last Colossal Order have to show off during Gamescom is the new buildings to be included in the game. These should help players to create far more effective than previous cities. Unnecessary small intermediaries will be eliminated, while the alternatives to car traffic will increase. The camera swept toward the outskirts of town, where it has been built a harbor for import and export of various kinds of raw materials and goods. Here we see the first of the new buildings, a separate cargo hub that combines train station and shipyards. Colossal Order have observed that many players creating industrial areas with freight trains running to the coast for export, but that they had to build a tiny road from the train station to the port to transport goods on. This road was always full of trucks. With the new cargo hub can now freight trains run directly to the harbor and unload their wares on a waiting cargo.

The new international airport works similarly. In addition to accepting traffic it also has a built subway station, which allows you to establish your own airport train lines. For those with lots of buses in their city, the new bus station be a welcome addition. With this one can merge many different bus lines and make it easier for its citizens to get where they want. Now avoids that they must constantly going on and off the bus at stops to get home, while avoiding the dozens of buses creating traffic congestion for those who prefer car.Are you however try to eliminate traffic in your town completely, there are opportunities to do that too. Colossal Order implements namely bicycles in Cities: Skylines After Dark. Cycling can be performed on either the sidewalk or on the roads, you can create custom commute routes only for bikes and new guidelines for districts your lets you choose how much bicycle traffic it will be in your town.

Conclusion

Broken down into its components may not sound After Dark extension like an enormous revolution, but it seems to be a good complement to an already phenomenal bybyggerspill. For example, it is time that the commercial areas also get specialization opportunities. We do not get more than two is still a bit sorry because I would have liked to see more.
With the new buildings can eliminate annoying small intermediaries who would otherwise not have existed in a normal city. Hopefully it will make cities both more streamlined and more aesthetically attractive. These buildings will also function as templates for modders, so they can create even more content and share it with player base. Colossal Order have understood that modified content is valuable for their game, and will not turn up in this.Night and day cycle as the entire expansion is based on, I think it seems most exciting. It was really something I missed in the base game, and how it will work in practice with the two budget-will be very exciting to see.Although this is the first of the major expansion packs for Cities: Skylines shall developers also continue to launch free extensions in the future. What these will contain is not known, but it definitely gives the impression that they are willing to support their game as long as possible. After Dark is just beginning.

Is it later this week yet or does later this week mean Friday a half hour before the office closes for the weekend?

Hahah, yeah... not a half hour, a minute, even at the last moment just before they close the door.

Just a little thought: what with the talk of new port buildings, I wonder if we will get the wished for 'super-port' that would act as an alternate spawn point, to the edge of the map, for rail and road traffic? I would use the map editor a lot more if I could design my own islands. Discrete islands with a good size airport, beach specialisation, and night-life, would be very wellcome.

P.S. Does anyone have an English translation for bybyggerspill?

That's an interesting pont about spawn points. I was going to build a "channel tunnel" rail connection to an island, but then I realised that it wouldn't work without a road connection to the existing highway on the mainland. I would welcome something in future which would allow for "stand alone" cities. May be something for modders to have a go at.
