Right, but I have to click on Chirper and read the chirp which is kind of annoying. For emergencies radio chatter would be a better notification because I don't have to read or click on anything, and because radio chatter sounds cool. :)
You can enable Chirper to open automatically under your settings.
I believe chatter sound would be cool in the beginning, then after a while either people would just ignore it or mute it. Those people still using Chirper, might still be liking him. :)

All this Chirper hate :(

I like Chirper, I like finding the citizen that are criticizing my town and removing their districts fire station and wait for their house to burn down and laugh.

I... may have some unresolved anger issues....

Will we be able to build/designate taxi ranks? For example most train stations have taxi ranks outside. I think the best way to do this would be to use the road upgrade tool, and that piece of road is then given painted taxi parking spaces and taxis park there (like normal roadside parking but just a line of taxis). That would end up looking how taxi ranks really look. Rather than a "taxi hire" building or something like that.

  1. Are you improving the mass transit line creation UI?
  2. In what way?
  3. Will this be free or in the paid DLC only?

Of those things you've listed are you doing this one you didn't list?

I'll let a CO rep answer, but I think the answer to 1 is "no" which makes 2 & 3 redundant.

Got a question. Will bus lanes work in the same way as tram tracks did in cim2 because that would really be useful if you could place them where they are needed.

Like if you have a bus line that only goes in one direction on a two way road it would be pointless to have a forced bus lane both ways! Or if your busses needs to turn left and you need them in the outer turn lane you could make that intro a bus lane?

This would also fit nicely with future tram additions if track placements works like in cim2. Loved the freedom, only thing missing was a option to turn of roads and lay tracks on grass or what ever surface you have between your roads. :)

My questions:

1. Will it be possible to mix the regular buildings with the wall-to-wall (European) ones via districts ... or will there be building-themes like some mods make it already possible? Or an official mod with that - like -Unlock all- or -Unlimited money- ...?

2. Tunnels in map editor ...? :) - Btw what would happen when i build a tunnel and after that i dig it out? o_O

EDIT:

3. And First-Person-View in vanilla-game?

I dont mind using Mods but since there is an add-on made now it might be some idea to include a few popular mods in the base game. Needles to say, only the ones that could be seen as an extra feature or option :

- Street level view (zoom in at ground level)
- Option to prevent cars from despawning
- Prevent buildings to level up above a certain level
- District options (select which buildings will be build within a certain district)

Its always better to have them in-game instead as a mod. (Not to take anything away from the modders!! you did an amazing job creating those!!)

BROAD QUESTION: How are taxis and bycicles expected to affect the traffic? How will the new transportation logic behave?

Very good question! I honestly think, at least I'm 82% sure, that they will be "faster pedestrians" but then--- why bicycle roads? Sorry, some of the new features I'm not completely sure how they are implemented :)

Do you already know or have an idea if the system requeriments will stay the same?
Thank you and awesome work :D

No changes in system requirements.

Ok, my first post & question here to TotalyMoo, when the first dev diary is planned?
When will the first dev diary be released?

Excited!

Later this week if all goes right!

Will my Cims make it to work before sunset? :D

I guess it's a sarcastic question based on how time is handled, yet I can say that this part of the simulation is pretty much untouched. Although workplaces behave differently depending on time of day.

I am guessing all my user made, downloaded skyscrapers, will be "Toast" after this expansion? LOL One request... upgrade the game to run on DirectX 12?

We're working on a future developer diary that will address modding changes and what needs to be done prior to launch in order to be compatible with After Dark. Not 100% sure how pre-AD-assets will look, I guess worst case scenario they are completely dark at night until fixed by the modder.

I don't reckon we're even near to using any of the DX12 features so not sure what we'd gain from that :)

Are there any plans to implement persistent tunnel interiors in the future?

Not something that has been discussed or, as far as I know, commonly requested. I reckon that adds a fair bit of extra strain on the game for very little value. Perhaps - though ;)

  1. Are you improving the mass transit line creation UI?
  2. In what way?
  3. Will this be free or in the paid DLC only?

1. Not to my knowledge.
2. See 1.
3. See 1.

There will be a developer diary on the new services, bus lanes, taxi's etc. and how they work!

Isn't DX12 supposed to be better with doing draw calls or something? I would have thought that would be a pretty big thing for you guys with how many objects skylines renders on screen. And than also better multi core performance would be nice.

Hmm I might be wrong here, not the most technical person so I figured it wouldn't make much difference for us. I'll get back to ya'll on that.

Until now, DX12 is not supported by Unity 5. Expected for end of this year i think. Until then, it makes not much sense to think about it as there is not much to know how it really will effect performance and what to do.
And as DX12 is for graphic, it will only make the graphic-performance (much) better. For players with high-end-graphiccards, there is already the CPU the limiting factor. Additional, DX12 is only for Windows 10, so ...
It would make it possible to have enhanced graphics in Cities: Skylines, but there is no high chance, that current limits would change.

And DX12 would be just optional, as the system requirements will not change DX11 as minimum. ;)
So, even if DX12 will come to Cities: Skylines, it will not change much for what it can already. Thats what to expect. :(

Let us just wait for the Add-On, as i bet it will be already a big improvement in the look and feel of your loved game. ;)

Developers, would you be able to get in contact with your QA and find out what the Linux benchmarks though? Just so we can tell if those of us playing primarily on Linux are getting the best performance we can. Right now game is moving fairly smooth for me, no lag or anything and I have a 3.0GHz quad core AMD processor, 24GB of RAM and a 4GB video card. The only issue is that I get CPU utilization of about 94-95% on all four cores. Game still plays smooth though.

Thanks for a wonderful gaming experience—I'm so glad I have Cities: Skylines and I'm excited about the new expansion!
