Where's the Money?

Having overcome a point at which I had a lot of CTDs I could play on. As you can see I only have one bus-stop at which the passengers are really unhappy. At two other stops the passengers 'drift' into unhappiness once in a while. The situation on the Station to Center bus-line is getting better and better however as the number of passengers at the station itself is getting smaller. The occasional traffic-jam, paralyzing the bus-line, is still occurring and there's little more I can do now.

Some people opt to go to their destination on foot. I am sorry!

34y7hx3.jpg

Then a nice opportunity to gain earn some money presents itself. A bingo club wants three lines to stop at their bingo-place. The reward is 1,500, money I can put to good use. Ok, I can do that and accept the 'job'. My method won't be fair however.

71mcqx.jpg

Placing three stops on the same block I can make the lines snake around the apartment building. These are no real bus-lines, just bogies intended to get the reward without much effort. Unfair perhaps, but I'll get my reward quick and easy.

3518pbc.jpg

Demolishing the line and selling the cheap, old buses wraps it all up as I take another look at the Northern-Central tram-line. Since I took the stop off of Rottenturmstrasse the line has become quiet. Few passengers want to travel on it and it would perhaps be best to put the northern part of the line a little further to the north and actually make it go somewhere. For now I won't do anything like that as I do want to keep the money I have 'earned' for the future metro-line. I do insert a new stop on the line and assign two of the four trams to the Southern line.

21nfiok.jpg

Now back to the underground, as you can see I have hardly any money in the bank, the loan I took is weighing heavily on my monthly expenses. I am making less money then I did half a year ago, bad business. Seriously contemplating taking another loan to finish that Underground-line. For now I raise the ticket-price a bit more and lower wages of my happy employees. Let's see what that does.

Keep in mind we are talking about a Beta-version, not a published game. Believe me, I am used to CTD's while playing beta-versions. The reason I actually mentioned it is because it took rather long for the first CTD to occure (compliments to the devs). I am not sure what caused this one but there was a series of them and once I had played past these I didn't get any other ones.

640 waiting passengers? That's way too much.
My suggestion: Replace "Station to Center Bus" with a tramline. Delete Northern Center Tramline and use it's trams for the new Station to Center Tram. So you just have to pay for stations and rails.
In case of the further use of the busses you get from Station to Center Line you have two choices:
a)Rebuild Northern Center Tram as busline
b)Sell them to get more money for your planned metro
Your thoughts?

@Aleksander: We know us from Cities XL forums, aren't we? You know, I'm the mod who's deleted your posts ;)

mosby could you take screenshot of very very crowded stop with 640 passengers - its would be cool to see how different crowds can cope on each stop

The stop we are talking about does not have 640 passengers waiting, you misinterpret the numbers in the screenshot. O wait, I haven't explained it right, have I? 640 is not the number of waiting passengers but the number of served/transported passengers. The busstop we are talking about is the one you can see on the screenshot, which has currently 56 passengers.

Your suggestions are good ones sir, very good indeed. I had not considered breaking up an entire line and replacing it with track. Unfortunately I won't be able to do it anymore, or rather, I would be able to but it won't be of any use. I have taken a step which felt like a radical step at the moment. See below.

Risky Business

The White Horse Corporation, that is my transport-company, is constantly on the brink of disaster. We're not making enough profit to do anything worthwhile and not enough loss to go bankrupt. Hence I have to do something risky, get an extra loan, a big one, and finish that underground line.
Before I do some Hell's Angel turns up with a strange proposition, wanting to buy two trams. Now it is strange a guy like him is running around in '30's Vienna, but what bothers me even more, what do they want with two trams? But, at the end of the day money is money so hey lad, here you go.

16iedv.jpg

30m1h12.jpg

The budget isn't going all that well as said. Raising the ticket-price makes passengers take the car or walking to their destinations. Lowering that hurts me a lot. Still I decide to do the later as I now need the passengers. I could sell those two trams because I didn't need them at the moment, my stops were almost deserted on some lines. Next to that, I calculate how much money I need to finish the line with two stations, instead of the intended three. Turns out to be 10 or 11k, which is a lot. I take the loan anyhow.

b99ea0.jpg

1zpnrzn.jpg

My first plan was to build a second station here, but if I do I won't have enough money for a third and this short line won't attract any passengers.

s4utso.jpg

The decision is quickly made. When I find a nice spot in a park near Rottenturmstrasse which is both in range of the hotel and the department store, that's where I build the station.

166wrbk.jpg

Below you can see the finished line. It left me with just enough money to buy a metro which can hold 40 passengers. Soon after opening the line the first passengers start using it and it turns out to be a quick profit. Strange about the animations on the station: the one near the department store is the most busy but it barely has anyone standing on the platforms. A busy station looks superb btw.

I have a question about the Metro.

Is it possible to add additional entrances to the same station to expand the area?

Multiple entrances on a single station exist on all metros I've visited at least. And you can understand why, logically when its underground entrances could pop up almost anywhere close to the station.

No, stations have one entrance. Otherwise placing it would become a big hassle imho.

Uhh, the game is very beautiful.
I can hardly expect it to be able to buy.
In a picture I saw that the subway type "Brotzeit Schachtel" means.
"Brotzeit Schachtel" is in German or Austria language, that word for snack box.

The blue-collar line

Having completed the underground line I have to earn some profit or I'll go bust. Can't help to look into the future though and I think it would be best to extend the line to the university to bring the students there, who all happen to live in the old center of the city. Budget is ok, but as you can see the loans are a huge burden.

3522c8p.jpg

20hn6ue.jpg

For some time the Blue-collar workers are unhappy about the coverage of my lines. Sure they can take the bus to their work in the northern industrial area. But what about the two southern areas?
I'll take a look on the map-layers and see there are a lot of workers who live close to the station and others live in areas which have transport to the station. Thus, with the little money I have, profit from the metro-line, I will start building a new bus-line, line 6 (4 and 5 where the ones I used for the 'cheat'). This one will go south, across the river and then return. It is a long line but I hope it will work and make the workers happy.

The buses make me some good profit. And that single metro-line line is doing wonders as well. Once the first loan has been paid of I am positively in the green. This is some time after taking the second loan however, about six months. The year is 1932. And then, all of a sudden this woman, Sandra Nussbaum turns up. She is mad, a complete loony. Isn't she?

I love the event/mission of this game (even if you can abuse some). It's nice to see all aren't positive proposition.

I also wonder, but I don't know if you wish to test it, if there is a downside for not completing an event/mission. And also if it's possible to have more than one event/mission at a time.
The downside part seems to be missing so this could be something Dev could work on putting a 6 months/1 year limit.

Wouldn't have to be a hassle. The initial placement should ofcourse always only have a single entrance as default, but what if the middle level later could have stairs added to ground levels in other directions aswell (as long as there is place for it). Or if it was possible to place other "half way" platforms on the other end of very long metro-stations. Since were only building transportation there shouldn't be much in the way under the ground so more free passageways could even be envisioned if just to let people pass under busy streets without blocking the traffic...

An improvement for the developers to consider imho.

Or idea for an expansion perhaps letting us tie together several metro, bus, tram into a single huge station-complex =)

Great Preview so far btw. Lots off nice info about what kind off game we will be getting :)

yeah i agree - metro stations should get custom designs eg adding features that people request for example disabled person asks for elevator installation to metro and have accessible trams and bus so just send message to one of devs they may like idea and also the two lines - for example line 1 goes under the line 2 station its really needs a station with interchange which the custom design can be done by dragging and plopping and clicking for options eg changing colours inside the station to show the line color
same applies to tram stops and bus stops
