Yeah, ive been watching his XCom and Darkest dungeons vods and streams for a while.

Its interesting that watching this i noticed how poor the "tutorial" is at explaining the different UI elements and mechanics, yet when i watching Cohh stream i didnt really noticed how poor it was due to the live chat helping.

I think someone could get a lot of views if they made tutorial vods and put them on Youtube if the game doesnt improve the tutorials.

Yep, at the end this game is very, very poor at explaining and teaching itself. Player has to be ready and willing to dig in by himself and just blindly experiment with stuff and see what happens*

* good results not guaranteed, wasted turns guaranteed

Yep. Watching ChristopherOdd's playthrough really shines a light at how lacking the tutorial for this game is. It really needed to explain mechanics like stability and initiative better.

I'm surprised at how much of the fundamental UI elements & gameplay concepts aren't covered.

The game doesn't even explain how the structure / armor indicator works, and it obviously isn't intuitive enough on its own since most new players aren't reading it correctly. The game really ought to explain how critical a situation an open CT is.

From watching the video.

Several other things never covered are-
Differences between straight red line, arcing red line and white line. This could be done with a an extra text box.
How you can tell range of the weapons on the arc visual
How you can see the info on the enemy mech by clicking on it.

Definitely agree on the tutorial being... how to put this politely... minimalistic.

Did any of the streamers talk to the various tutorial teachers onboard the Leopard? I know Cohh talked to Yang, but not sure if maybe more combat advice and details are hidden in those conversation trees.

In any case, a more exhaustive tutorial would probably be good based especially on CristopherOdd's experiences; he's a clever guy and he'll figure it out, in part because he actually reads YouTube comments and is a fast learner, but I doubt a lot of players that are new to Battletech have access to those kinds of resources/will spend the effort looking.

A solid tutorial can only help, even if it won't be necessary for some of the people frequenting these boards, and who have already planned the progression of pilots and developed combat strategies...

Or just tell distance in meters when mousing over target, on top of arc visual.

Also hopefully they have added a lot good popup box tips and tutorials about... everything in the game into those 2 tutorial missions.

Does it explain obscured (partial red line with an slashed eyeball near the target)? I don't actually remember that one getting a mention either.

Most of the various armor indicators are actually entirely deceptive. The total armor level is bizarrely useless, either when the target is selected or over the paper doll. The only armor value that actually means anything at all is only displayed IF you click on a paper doll section to find out what it's specific armor and structure values are. And I'm pretty sure nothing tells you that you can actually do that.

It reduces chance to hit and may physically block shots. I'm not sure how accurately that is tracked, whether it actually ray traces from each specific weapon to the target or whether it's some random chance.

Not sure if game cares at all considering lasers, kinetic rounds and missiles fly through terrain like nothing.

Basically I'm yet to see single situation where that disconnected red line was somehow bad for your chances of coring the target, always been basically same as having connecting red line.

Obstruction is a +2 difficulty/-10% chance to hit.

First mission is pretty long.... getting some short and focused tutorials somewhere at start wouldnt hurt. Maybe in the 3 years as a merchenary, that would fit storry wise.
