Love the new patch! However, would it be possible to retain the older versions as "beta branches" on Steam the way Paradox do for Stellaris, for example?

This way those of us who play longer campaigns with various mods don't get their saves broken because we could just "pin" our game version to one of the previous versions and keep playing with our custom settings and mods until we're done (and then update).
