Thinking up detailed war plans to attempt in various play throughs in hoi4 has been a lot of fun for me, and i can't wait to try them out. Basically, in this topic, choose a country, list your wargoals, and detail your overall strategy for how they will be achieved. If you're feeling particularly motivated, you can even get a map and draw out your strategy. I'd like to bookmark this topic and when the game comes out, try a few of the better strategies out.

i originally posted this in the USA megathread, but then it gave me the idea of making this thread, so i'll just copy and paste it as my first plan. I also made a French battleplan with a badly drawn map in the offensive French topic, but for now I'll just post the USA one. I look forward to seeing all your strategies!

Wargoal: World domination from a Fascist lone wolf USA. No allies besides puppets(phillipines, Liberia).

I would like to be fascist and have my army ready to go by 39. I'll be focusing hugely on carrier based fleets, Marines, and strong, but small mobile armies made up of tanks and eventually mechanized infantry. Basically I'll start by declaring war on the entire western hemisphere except European colonies and canada.)

The only hard part about going south is the poor infrastructure, and if you go down from panama, the amazon rain forest can grind you to a halt. The only nations that won't fall after sending down 3 divisions is Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. Luckily, all their capitals are right on the shore, so you can just draw up a massive invasion battleplan that sends marines into each capital from Panama and Miami, and South America will quickly be blue.

After securing South America, time to declare on Canada, The English Carribean colonies, and maybe even French territories in South America. Canada will fall easily, since all their warscore cities are basically right on the border.

I'll form a few fleets next, including one giant one to take on anything England and France can throw at me,basing most of them in the Atlantic, along with a decent sized fleet remaining in Hawaii to intercept anything coming from Australia or Hong Kong.

From there on, your an unstoppable force, and if you're skilled enough, by 41 or so you can literally take on most of the world alone, using an overwhelming navy to quickly take command of the seas and sink the RN and IJP, and also swatting the flies that will be the French and Italian navies.

From there on, I would conquer all of Ireland, stationing a defensive force in Northern Ireland to stop any British forces from crossing the Irish Sea, Grab the Azores from Portugal, Madagascar from France(it was French right?), and basically have Ireland, Azores, Portugal, Madagascar, Hawaii, Greenland, and maybe even New Zealand, and basically fortify them up with max naval forts, stationing a home fleet at each and a decent Naval Bomber force, and basically use them as screens to protect from invasion fleets, bases to launch coordinated invasions, and basically paint the world blue by 45-46.

I'll start sending troops to Hawaii to quickly fall Australia, then take Japan out, before slowly advance a massive army across Asia, taking out China, India, etc, and eventually arriving in Europe, coordinating invasion forces to give harder countries a 2 front war. I'll mass a large army in Ireland, overrunning England with a large force of paratroopers i'll be building up for a year or two beforehand, equipped with antitank support units(you can attach support to paratroopers that parachute into battle right?) use them to take out the Army blocking passage from the Irish sea crossing, allowing my Irish army group to pour in and overwhelm the small army England usually has on the home island in hoi games, then landing near Stalingrad and sandwiching the Soviet army after my troops advance through Siberia and arrive in western Russia. From there on, Europe will fall like dominos, and unless Germany has already taken Poland and France, there shouldnt be any significant challenges. Italy will probably be my last target, advancing to the tip and finally Sicily, before launching an invasion of Africa, taking out any remaining great powers fighting from their colonies.

Not a plan as such but I think I'll take Italy as a starter so I can get accustomed to all the new mechanics before taking on a larger nation.

I will first play as the Netherlands, focusing on digging in and holding fortress Holland (and likely failing) against the German onslaught. While playing with my fleet in the east at Indonesia. I will be able to experience pretty much all aspects of the game except air warfare and as a bonus I can play as my own country.

If I manage to hold the line against the Germans until the allied liberation Europe and Soviet invasion of Germany I will break out of my defensive positions and take a chuck of western Germany, including the Ruhr. I managed to do this once successfully in HoI3.

If they make a Netherlands dlc similar to the Polish one, I would love to see an option to open the levees and flood the lowground, slowing down the Germans and giving them huge attacking penalties.

Also an event to combine Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg into one country(maybe even invite Denmark?) It would be a small, but very advanced rich country!

My Germany plan will be to rush Panzer 3 early and then use them to make blitz's in Poland while also making a thrust against the lowlands and France then size Romania For that oil and then I will attack the British and finally enact the Destiny of the German people

I want to form a big blue blob.
Conquer Europe and beyond with Commie France and it's allies which would be commie Yugoslavia and Republican Spain in our own faction.
I would be investing massively into my air force and modern doctrines while building loads of dispersed factories.
The trick is to steamroll Germany and Italy while they're busy fighting Poland and Yugoslavia.
I've once managed to do that in HoI 3 with the custom start, I controlled all of Europe by 1943 after a long and costly war with the USSR but then my save file got corrupt.

Soviet Union. Mass produce cheap infranty. Use them to raise my voluteer limit to send to Spain. Formemt revolution in India, America, Poland, and Yugoslavia. Mass troops at Romania and invade at the first opportunity, same with Turkey if there's time.
All the while mass producing civilian factories and going down the research focus trees then foreign policy. Leave the purges for now. Stalin is killed and Trotsky takes the helm.
Build forts across the border and in strategic points leading to Moscow and settle in for those civil wars to erupt.

Yeah, I'm hoping for a nation pack for Belgium and the Netherlands, I don't know if combining the countries through diplomacy is feasible in this timeframe, but there should certainly be events to create a BeNeLux faction separate from the Allies and Axis.

Soviet Union
1936-39: IC build-up and Stalin-line from Leningrad to Moscow (close to that line whereever terrain is favourable).

1939-41: continue Stalin-line, build-up anti-tank and arty infantry en masse.

1942-Barbarossa decided: mass-produce tech-rushed tank model without ever upgrading it.

1st and 2nd year of Barbarossa: Hold the fortified Stalin-line at all costs to deny Germany the capture of Leningrad and Moscow. This will lead to an overstretched German line that may well lead into the Caucasus but no further than the Urals.

3rd year until end of Barbarossa: Amass the massive tank force around Moscow. Strike in summer deep into the centre, halt at the former Polish border, split the force in two and rush to both seas in the north and south. Follow with infantry. The idea: destroy the entire German Barbarossa force in one giant blitz at the point of their greatest extent and exhaustion. Depending on the techs, a winter offensive might work as well.

Barbarossa victory - end of game: Construct whatever future enemies might warrant. Air or navy, no more land units needed.

Fascist Poland
1936-'39: build up relations with Germany, follow Axis focuses, build more industry, and start transition from cavalry to armor. Invade whatever Germany leaves of Czechoslovakia.
'40: build up airforce and the like, and if possible, invade Romania; I'd also like to take chunks of the Scandinavians if possible.
'41: Presumably there's a world war going on by now, and presumably Germany and myself are going to Barbarossa the Soviet Union.
'42-43: Hoping the war with Russia goes well, I'll try and expand as much as possible; Bulgaria, Greece, Yugoslavia, Turkey- whoever still exists to the South will soon find Poland marching across their borders.
Late game: focus on building up technology and a strong air force, maybe more expansion overseas.

Poland looks like a fun nation with the United and Ready free DLC, so they'll probably be the first country I play (after tutorial)

Starting build programme of CLAA for main fleet integration, ASW DDs to form their own trawling fleets, land-based light interceptors, and a massive amount of basic infantry equipment. Focuses on Grand Battleplan (Infiltration) and Fleet in Being (Escort, then the other surface branch). Army completely takes precedence over Navy, Airforce is only there to provide fighter cover.

'36 - Amass forces of pure infantry spam from the start, prepping a two-pronged war on China pushing down from the north and up through Hainan in a naval invasion (Phase Red). It'll extend out roughly as far as the borders of the warlord states in the south, creating a triangle with Burma as one safe side and the sea as another, for minimum front size per land occupied, in the north it'll cover Shanxi, the Communist hold-out, and the Quingdao peninsula. Declare as soon as possible. Push out to defensive positions (behind rivers &c) around the borders specified, then hold them. Build a third force of highly mobile units, cav based.

'38 (probably) - With the Chinese units bogged down either entrenching along the new borders, or getting slaughtered in assaults on them, the third force makes a rapid naval invasion in Shanghai/Hangzhou and starts to gobble the central VPs at massive speed (Phase Blue). If China moves too many men east in compensation, we smash-and-grab Chongqing with the westernmost forces and likely force immediate capitulation, if they don't send as many men east, we push our flanks along the coast to meet up and form one continuous front (Phase Purple), then start making breakthroughs to cut off large portions of the extended Chinese corridor to the east. China is slowly ground to dust. Aiming for capitulation in '39, annexing the coast and any other strategic areas, puppeting the interior.

Probably use the European concessions to anchor my right flank on the southern invasion, grab all of Gobbudist Chiba, rather than just two-thirds, and so on, but that's the rough layout. Map made for worst level of push on blue, will likely actually be much longer (west) by the time it's that broad (north - south).


'40 - The Army is large, but very primitive. Start mass production of better equipment, integrate support companies. Cav divisions remain small and low on mechanisation, possibly one Chi-Ha based TD each, but only if it doesn't impact the speed. Strategic decision has to be made here on whether to join the Axis or go alone, probably informed by a better understanding of surrender mechanics. The two infantry armies are to set up on the eastern and western borders of Manchukuo, planning up for invading Outer Manchuria and the Trans-Baikal + Irkutsk, respectively. The cavalry army takes up position in Northern China, planning an assault out through Mongolia and Tannu Tuva. Then it's sitting back, waiting, and building up. We're waiting for the Soviet Union to get bogged down in a bad war.

[Timeline Split]

- If Soviets remain at peace by the time our army's modernised: Look for nearby countries who aren't in factions or guaranteed and consume them. Failing that, look to seize colonies from any faction that's losing a war (Allies are probably getting hammered, nick the islands to the south whilst holding them along the short Burmese border. Once it's all Japanese, push through and try for the Raj &c).

- If the Soviets are losing ground in a war: Wait either until they seem to be stabilising the situation, or until it is clear that they will lose. Armies push out according to plan. Once they've taken their positions, the infantry armies form a defensive line going dead north from Mongolia's west-most point and the cavalry mop up in the east. Once there's no red left east of the line, Comintern have probably surrendered (ages ago), if not then push west. Annex the Soviet islands in the east, annex Outer Manchuria, gib Mongolia and Tannu Tuva to Mengjiang, puppet anyone else in the south who was Comintern, puppet from Kamchatka north and then west as far as your warscore will let you. Rebuild and consolidate. If there's enough time, look above. If the above plan is not possible because that war's been won, prepare for an invasion of the US, grabbing Alaska and Panama before taking their colonies and trying to slowly grind in through their western border until they'll take peace for concessions (gib Panama)?

Germany:

Overall Plan: I will try to get Italy Hungary and Romania into the Axis, if this doesn’t work some tanks will have to do the job. Anschluss and munich agreement will be done as quickly as possible. After this i will go for Poland than France. If Spain isn´t willingly joining the axis i will march right through after france. After this i will do for denmark and norway. I will try do avoid war against the USSR for now and will try to pull a succesful sealion. If UK falls i will prepare for war against USSR, if Finladn still is there i will pre- posizion a large army there do. Yeah that is my overall plan.

Civil Production Plan: Probably going for civ factories in 1936. In 1937 and 1938 i will go for military factories and in 1939 i will focus on synth plants. After that i will have to look what i need.

1936: 50% infantry equipment, 10% support equip, 20% fighter, 5% cas, 10% mot, 5% arty; 50%convoy and 40% subs and 10% CL
1937: 35% inf equip, 5% support equip, 20% fighter, 10% cas, 10% mot, 10% arty, 10% AT; 40% convoy, 40% subs, 20 % CL
1938 and 1939: 30% inf equip, 5% support equip, 15% fighter, 10% cas, 10% mot, 5% arty, 5% AT, 20% armor; 25% convoy, 40% subs, 20% CL, 15% CA
1940 and onwards: as the war needs it.

Natinal Focus Plan: Go for Rhineland, than down to 5th research slot, as soon as possible go for Anschluss and Munich Agreement, than i will go for land doctrine and research speed. After that i will depand on the situation.
