This is what's left of Germania after I (Emperor of Holy Romuva Empire) ordered Chinese invasion into their empire. Note: Pannonia was also a part of Germania and Byzantine Empire was their tributary state, and it also owned a third of Iberian peninsula.
Before invasion I thought that China is unstoppable, unless you have 300k troops. But what I saw in this invasion was that China sent only 40k soldiers for invasion. If the Emperor of Germania was not fighting China's tributaries (including Muslim Empire of Hispania) and had he joined his units and maybe hired a holy order or a big mercenary band, he could have even had a chance against the invaders, as he had some 40k+ troops himself.
This leaves me a bit confused about China.
Ok, so its army scales to the target's size. Considering the attrition it suffers, you don't have to fight it at its full strength. So, it's actually pretty beatable? Because, theoretically, I could have beaten these 40k troops, if I had to.
But then there was one moment that left me even more confused. By the time Chinese army reached Germania, the war score was 36% in China's favor. It marched into the capital county and started a siege. A few moments later, the Germanian Emperor surrendered.
So, how can I beat China, if it declares war against me, if the war score can advance so rapidly without any good reason?
p.s. I have a peace deal with China. But, as I've read in these forums, it doesn't necessarily guarantee peace, as sometimes it decides to break it in favor of its tributaries.
