First, thanks to everyone for their comments. I hope to start being able to update on a more regular basis (meaning far more frequently than now).

Oh, thats just gorgeous. Finally united! I absolutely LOVE the themes of nation-building and modernization that youve so thoroughly ingrained into the AAR. Very nice.
I always intended this, from the very moment that I thought of it while on a cruise in Alaska, to be a bit more than a pure gameplay AAR (Rise of Red China), but not quite as detached as a history book AAR (Story of the Calcutta Rebellion), and instead to be a bit more like... well I don't really know what to call it, but I'm glad that you like it!

PrawnStar said:
Good work on the unification!

It's nice to see an AAR where someone goes and does something plausible.

Now for the next bit - how long will a navy take to research and build?
Yes, one of the major things I learned from Rise of Red China was that doing something plausible is a whole lot more entertaining than conquering everything in sight.

If I remember correctly, I have exactly one respectable CTF by the winter of '45-'46. I've purposely not played ahead of that point, because a) I'm not sure what I'll do first, and b) people have given bits of good advice through this AAR, and I haven't been able to use them because I'm too far ahead - so I'm letting the AAR catch up first.

Cavalry? Heard of those new things called tanks which are not only cooler, but much stronger than horses? I guess you have to cut back somewhere if you want a navy...

Yeah, I don't really have the research slots for tanks... ;)

Plus, cavalry+artillery is actually a quite good combination, actually I have an old chart comparing them to infantry:

chart.png

Orange = Cav+art (cav3, until the last 3 entries, which are cav5)
Purple = Infantry

I'd say I could take on the US around 1950, or a smaller naval power (Japan or UK) withing 3-5 years. Anyone else will cower before the PLAN (for those who missed it earlier: People's Liberation Army-Navy) by '46 (this includes Germany, USSR, or any coastal minor).

That's right, only now the real thing will start
will you focus on carrier vessel's fleets?
Yes, I will be having Carriers screened by Light Cruisers.

Of course the USSR will cower before the PLAN - especially if it's a five year one ;)

You havent considered a soviet alliance yet?
You would get nice land army techs.. boost them with the research and manufactury stuff... and feel invincible with this possibly strongest of nations.
Besides, allies dont do surprise attacks ;)

On the downside, there is a chance the germans will roll all over the sovs, even tho thats less likely with you strengthening the soviet economy.

Oh and any plans to liberate the Indians from the exploiting imperialstic opium peddling barbarian English?
The resulting alliance group... S.I.C.K. (Soviet, India, China, Korea) :D

Besides, the english military is always weak in hoi.. Ofcourse then theres the risk the americans will show up. Now that would be bad. ;)
Or just wait for their independence.. and then hit them with innumerable diplomatic visits. Too bad you cannot fill a unformed nation with spies waiting for such a day.

Oh yes.. and you really must have the indochinese to "tremble and oney" once more.. they can send their rulers to kowtow to the dragonthrone.. just like in the good old days. :D
Now that should be fairly riskfree..

Ps: you arent going to suffer macao or hong kong in the hands of imperialists, right?

I actually can't offer an alliance to the Soviets because Korea is in my alliance. Even if I dissolve the alliance, the Soviet AI is programmed not to ally with Communist China, as it was in real life, where the Soviets and the PRC didn't necessarily see eye-to-eye on everything.

Oh and any plans to liberate the Indians from the exploiting imperialstic opium peddling barbarian English?

Yes, fighting the British will be a very important goal once the navy is done.

Besides, the english military is always weak in hoi.. Ofcourse then theres the risk the americans will show up. Now that would be bad. ;)
Fortunately, I don't have to worry about that. The Japanese, having been beaten by me in the Sino-Japanese war, will not declare war on the US. The US, therefore, has stayed neutral so far, and I predict will stay neutral unless I do something about it.

Or just wait for their independence.. and then hit them with innumerable diplomatic visits. Too bad you cannot fill a unformed nation with spies waiting for such a day.
Odds are that they will be independent before I feel my navy is strong enough to fight the Allies. So yes, an invasion of India isn't too unlikely.

Oh yes.. and you really must have the indochinese to "tremble and oney" once more.. they can send their rulers to kowtow to the dragonthrone.. just like in the good old days. :D

This is true. Vichy still controls Indochina, having never ceded it to Japan. I'm not afraid of war with Germany, as they can't do anything to me, so this is always an option.

As far as Indochina goes, you have an excellent ability to predict my moves

Ps: you arent going to suffer macao or hong kong in the hands of imperialists, right?
The Portuguese have a 50% chance to accept my demands of Macao. Unfortunately, Hong Kong will have to wait until war with the UK.

Why not try heading west through Afghanistan and seize the Persian oil supplies? That would also give you a very good jumping off point should you ever decide to dance with the Bear.

China Rules the Seas
A Chinese Naval AAR

china-flag.gif

Interim: Part 1

On February 27, the Shipbuilding Industry Management Bureau developed a prototype design for a light cruiser, which could theoretically be used to screen the aircraft carriers also under development. They were given funding to continue in the improvement of their design, provided that they used the blueprints that were en-route from Korea.

ScreenSave516.jpg

Three hours later, newly attached artillery brigades were attached to the cavalry, to create a new, mobile, elite force.

ScreenSave517.jpg

Little of note happened for the next month, however one month and one day later, the Soviet Naval Mission developed tactics appropriate for use with aircraft carriers. They then continued with something the Soviets termed "decisive battle theory".

ScreenSave518.jpg

Then, on the 9th, the Chinese Ambassador to Portugal succeeded in his mission - cajoling the Portuguese to return Macao to China, despite the fact that the 99-year lease that the Portuguese had taken on the province from the Qing Dynasty had not yet expired.

ScreenSave519.jpg

On the 16th of May, the development of the next prototype light cruiser was completed. Once again, the Shipbuilding Industry Management Bureau was ordered to continue developing prototypes, using Korean blueprints.

ScreenSave520.jpg

By the time that the development of this prototype Light Cruiser was roughly one-third of the way through, the Ship Product Design Branch completed its development of an aircraft carrier prototype. They continued working on it, with the help of the Koreans.

ScreenSave522.jpg

With the Soviet Naval Mission having completed their Decisive Battle Doctrine, the Dalian Naval Academy began working on tactics to better utilize the PLAN's 2 flotillas of submarines (these were outdated models sent to China by the Soviets). Their work began on June 13, 1943.

ScreenSave524.jpg

With their modernization of the infantry, the CMC began applying the same methods to improving the mountaineers, an important and elite branch of the PLA.

ScreenSave524.jpg

Finally, on the 30th of July, the PLA completed their war games and planning, which had determined that tactical breakthroughs must be given greater priority. They continued building on this by analyzing how best to perform an offensive using mobility and speed.

It probably isnt that bad. It looks like the tech teams are specialized enough to be effective in that their components match those of the techs that he needs to research. The skill levels are low, though.
