Unstoppable, spamming, impotent, Pirate Raids

Inescapable Celestial Empire mechanic, even for a fully Westernized, Innovative, free, centralized populace (all of which my current game are ... to the max on each slider)

Forming "Chinese Nation" transforms state into Manchu

"Form Chinese Nation" makes all future x to Manchu save files inaccessible (GRRRR)

Temple faction gets huge manpower penalty and Bureaucratic faction can't deploy traders (this one's a bit of personal taste, really)


I get how these implementations were meant to impair AI, and I appreciate how balancing the factions can make the game interesting ... but especially to the second point, there should never be no way to opt out. Even if the barrier is quite high, I want to have the same powers as the other states. Before the current patch, the factions could be done away with? I wish I'd have started this particular campaign back then.... Were there incessant pirate raids?

Yes, historically, China was plagued by pirates. Enact the "Coastal Defenses" decisions in your coastal provinces to prevent it from happening. Can only enact it in a province that's been hit by a pirate raid at least once, and after you do, it won't happen there anymore.

Not true. Pirates can hit the same spot even with coastal defenses in place. If they do it in 5.2beta, Ming and Korea have opportunity to send Wokoku (sp?) expeditions, taking chances of stopping raids forever. Send it few times and you get rid of pirates.

But I couldn't get out of Celestial Empire even after being fully Westernized. Sub-optimal but not overly bad.
