Just thought of this but wouldn’t an expansion pack DLC based around China and Far East be good way to reintroduce imperial governments maybe with bit variations between main ones like Byzantium and China?
Also I’m just seeing bunch of Chinese people on mod workshop making this and other mods. To me that hints that paradox should consider appealing to that audience.

Byzantium has theme imperial system. Basically more militaristic and theocratic in structure then Chinese bureaucracy which is purely bureaucratic with exception of Tang(probably most militaristic minded and structure Chinese dynasty out of them all).
You could also add “feudal” imperial system. Basically the Japanese shogunate. Also could be used as model for any Catholic reforming Western Roman Empire or reforming the Holy Roman Empire.

Imperial system like Japanese during shogun or even decentralized Holy Roman Empire loads out perfect model for game mechanics while still staying in game theme especially with feudalism. The gameplay would focus on imperial court, electors, local lords, theocratic orders, etc within empire.
For example, the adding theocracy governments to game and republics add flavor to diplomacy and playing as baron or Duke. A lot of game of thrones stuff and vibes.

The only really centralized empires are Byzantium and Chinese.
As Norse reformer in many of my play throughs I would like to create Shogun type of imperial system as North Sea Empire high king. Basically your more like absolutist or tsar then Chinese or Byzantium emperor. You still have all lords and feudal structure just somewhat coherent system to prevent Balkanization after each king/emperor dies. The line of succession is established.
Maybe also have the caliphate as special imperial government type? Just not sure how they function among themselves especially in game.

What are everyone else’s thoughts?

Adding china is a terrible idea and would lag game considerably
I understand that but Europa includes entire globe? Also if it was me I would give Chinese emperor a huge dominion limit and maybe either special thing where they can hold more duchies or just make Han majority areas just kingdom size duchies to do same thing without making emperor OP. This also lowers the lag due to it making it where you need less minor or generated characters in China or East.
This would replicate Chinese bureaucracy centralization plus helps greatly lessen lag. Although I would add feature where it’s hard for Chinese to expand due to above to keep them from blobbing.

It’s not the size map itself. It’s more of character model and everything dealing with that which causes much of lag.
That’s why I recommend more centralization mechanics and less character models out in Far East. Also Don’t include all of Indonesia and southeast China.
Honestly they already wasted map space on Africa just to add stuff there.

My biggest issue with your opinion even while understandable why hell do they include all of waste lands in steppes or in Asia along with bunch of areas that lack coherent historical records like sub-Saharan Africa but not China or Japan. Japanese would even fit game mechanics better then Africans due to their own system???

I don't think that adding "imperial governements" in the correct approach.

CK3 does a lot of things with features that can have a variety of traits and characteristics, that can dynamically evolve through the game. Vassal contracts are also in this category, and in fact even realm laws etc.

When "governments" get expanded, I expect something similar. Not the rigid government types of CK2, but a full spectrum that goes from decentralization to absolute control and from municipalities/republics to empires. Depends on various things, each "state" could dynamically evolve on a spectrum. This would allow a lot of things that were not in CK2, like showing the evolution of the ERE from the old roman Empire to an organization that is a lot more similar to feudalism, but also to portray the rise of the merchant republics and then their progressive centralization, or even the spread of manorialism in England after the Norman conquest for instance. Let's also not forget that in actual history, there wasn't one model of the merchant republic like in CK2. There was a variety of ways in which city states could work, and they weren't all based on sea trade, for one.
Also, from a gameplay perspective, it would also naturally allow huge states to derive naturally towards more imperial governements, while small states on trade routes could more easily be tempted to become more republican. CK is a sandbox: there's no reason to try to portray the ERE with a rigid imperial government if it gets a very different alt history in each game.

But I don't think that adding China in the same time would do anything good. China didn't just have other forms of governements. It's a whole world to model, with its own internal dynamics, cultures, beliefs, all with their own quircks. That's a lot of work ; time better spent on first enhancing what we already have on the map.

What is the percentage of people that play in India or outside Europe, particularly what is now western Europe. I expect it is a small amount of the total. Personally wish they went back to the borders of when CK2 was released. It would certainly improve the Mongol Hordes.

I wouldn't mind a return of the CK2 version of the empire of China as an off-map power. I kinda enjoyed the events that went with it. But as others have mentioned the mechanics of CK3 are really unsuited to modelling China. China is also geographically cut off from most of the current map by massive steppe/mountains so Chinese armies marching into the current map or vise-versa wouldn't make much sense.

IMO adding India was already a mistake. They made it tiny compared to its IRL size, it has very few events and mechanics and doesn't work well with the European-based feudal system. China would likely have all the same problems or worse.

I know it'll never happen, but I believe the China (and India!) of this time period deserve its own game. China (and India!) have systems that just don't quite work in CK3's feudal centric gameplay.

Heck, the pagans, Orthodox, and Muslims barely work in CK3's feudal centric gameplay. It really is made to model feudal Catholic France, and even that it struggled with.
