You lost Constantinople somewhere between 1220 and 1224, it constituted 54g of your monthly 234g. Assuming you lost it first thing in 1220, our last save is oct 24 1251 and lets say Constantinople got you an even 60/month thats 60gx44months=2640g. Plus that 4prov duchy around Epirus, combined worth about half of Byz so +1320g=3960g. So a net loss so far of about 4000gold, liberally counted.

So I was quibbling about manpower and didn't notice that these are funny numbers. How do you get 44 months out of the period 1220-1251? Call it thirty years, and it should be 360 months. 360*60=21600. Then Dyrrachion comes in addition.

With Juldag's Vinglögg! My friends drunk-sms, I drunk-calculate imaginary tax revenues. :D

Hmm, quite. So liberally ~35.000 lost then? Subtract pirates and increase in church donations cost and we should be somewhere around 20.000? Since you had a hand in said loss yourself I say you pay the remaining 15.000.

I must say I'm not in the habit of compensating enemies for the revenue they lose when I retake lands that are clearly mine by right, and I don't intend to set such a precedent.

Croatia currently makes about 20-50 gold monthly. It varies from month to month, and it goes negative if I raise any regiments. So yeah, gold is pretty important. All the big guys get off by saying "Gold means absolutely nothing in CK and is a worthless commodity that is too abundant thus we need gold sinks like trade pirate events" but you don't think about the smaller nations when you do that. If I get a single trade pirate event, it takes several years to regain the money lost from that event. And at the rate I used to get those events, I was doomed to hang around 50 gold forever because whenever I got more, I got an event wiping out 5 years' worth of savings. It wasn't until I got some gifts from bigger friends that I was actually able to build buildings and earn a bit of money to be able to overcome those pirate events.

Whenever I try to raise an army to quell a small rebellion, I lose about 80-130 gold monthly. When you start getting into debt, you start losing buildings, losing stability, and those mean your vassals become less loyal. Gold is -very- important to small nations like Croatia, because we can't build up stockpiles the size of Denmark's.

pft, when you make 12 gold per month with total of 33 stewardship, then come back whining:p I preserve the universall rigth to be the beggar of this game...

Couldn't you set the gain of Poland against that pretty well?

I mean, the Polish economy may have been this game's equivalent of Zimbabwe when under Polish rule, but surely it produces some manpower and wealth under Croatian rule? Rule by grannies seems a far step up from rule by Poles.

I think the effects of the Tiloi pillaging every single province are still happening. Not a single Polish province has an income over 3 (4 or 5 on a good day), and Zadar itself usually makes more than all my gains in Poland put together.

The Fatimid Caliphate:
In the shadows of those who came before them II.

islamy.jpg

2_hagia_sofia_belulrol.jpg

The throne room of the palace of Pharos

"Guide me, oh light of Allah" Radhi said formally as he bowed, forehead to the floor, before the Calipha

"Arise ye faithful" Abdul responded. "I believe we have all the relevant Lords Fatimid assembled?"

He looked to the assembled Emirs of Syria, Jerusalem, Egypt and Fatimid Arabia. Most of them were veterans of Iraq and Anatolia, old men clad in even more ancient armour and billowing emerald cloaks. Radhi was something of an anomaly, born to late to have participated in the war. Having spent his life attempting to get the economy back on its legs after the loss of naval dominance in the Mediterranean he wore more comfortable silks, something the old guard frowned at. As if his garb was a surrender of the mindset and goal to retake the lands lost.

"Now, give me good news of the west Radhi" The Calipha continued.

"The Imperial court has been... slow in reigning in the pirate barons they have set to rule over the western isles." Radhi murmured in response. "With the loss of the Grand shipyard of Palermo, as well as the other major ports on the island, we have had to rely on the Naval Harbours of Tangiers and Tunis to supply our war ships. Frankly they are not sufficient to provide more than escorts for the merchant marine, and even then we are suffering losses from raids out of Mallorca and Corsica. The Maltese have even started praying on fleets carrying the Caliphal banner. As it stands we may have to start compensating the merchants out of the Alexandrian treasury to provide stimulus, lest we see our merchant marine shrink and lose all chance of competing at sea."

"I have a proposal for a economical stimulus package myself." Retorted the venerable Lord Fatimid Faisal al-Skarktik. "I call it 'Brutal Conquest'! Let us see how much raiding they can to with their head on a spear!"

"I don't believe..."

"Did the Rashidun spent their days organizing escorts for the merchant marine? Did Ala'i spare those who stood before him? Did Afzal mollycoddle the Persians when they refused to recognize the Persian border? No! They went forth in the name of Jihad with Allah and victorious arms! The Barbarians in the North have twice ransacked Alexandria, now a child king rules and the vikings revolt. I say we avenge their imperious arrogance! I say we burn Lond'in and Kop'al-hagiin to the ground and proclaim a Sultanate of the Bretons, let some Andalusi noble administer it. The Rus will approve" Faisal continued, demonstratively pushing chess pieces across a map at the center of the table.

"No. We bloody need the ships at home, as I have already explained" Radhi cut him off. "Let the barbarians kill each other off in their own spare time."

"Them trade routes would be safer if we owned both ends." muttered Faisal with at sneer "What good is money if we are not using it to spread the faith?"

The Calipha raised a finger slightly off his armrest, silencing the two men. "Sicily? Is my Imperial counterpart holding his part of the pact?"

"In that arabs and infidels are treated equal? Yes. And by equal they mean of course that everybody is equally punished for not praying in church on Sundays..."

"So the rumors are true then?" The Calipha's eyes darkened

"Not all, but most" Radhi sighed "But there is not much we can do for them, and the assassination of their Pope did not help much" He ended pointedly.

"Allowing the Engineers Guild to take up residence in Beirut may have been a bad decision" The Calipha sighed. "But my chief Spymaster has throughly investigated the alchemist responsible for handing over this new wizardry to the Hassassins, and assures me no black magicks were used."

"The Papal throne spewed forth a daemon of fire that engulfed the old bugger in screeching flame, it sounds more like something that happens in the darkest Russia..." Mullah Quasim said in a suspicious tone. "From what I hear this alchemy is from the East, and we all know what fell wizardry stems from Esfahan..."

"Some form of black rock the Guild hopes can be made to breach walls once sufficiently refined. As for Esfahan I suspect they will soon have enough trouble with the vengeful Rus and other assorted nomads they have angered." The Calipha mused. "One wonders what they were thinking, simply walking into Russia..."

You know that one in Byzantine.

The structure is indeed Hellenic, but while there are similarities it is not Constantinople. We to dream of the day when the Hagia Sofia sports arabic caligraphy and minarets, but alas for now that is but a pleasant daydream...

(and it's not like we have a lot of pictures of the interiors of the Great Lighthouse for me to use :p )

I'll try, unfortunately most stuff is either not majestic enough or Turkish. And I really liked the effect the light has in that photo

A nice change of pace from the Byzantophiles and viking-huggers! You will be happy to hear that while we were tinkering with our mod over the holidays Golle started of demands for various custom titles...

Ederon forums said:
KoM: Noted: Golle and OrangeYoshi want their names changed. Anyone else desire this?

Frosty: Change FATI to The Caliphate, I already have enough K of Egypt titles

Foels: Persia changed to "The REAL caliphate"

Frosty: Now see the nice thing about there being a landless title for the Caliphate is that we can fight over it! And weren't you a Shah just a second ago?

Foels: You're absolutely right! KoM, please change the title of Qarakhnid to "The Caliphate" and make it the primary title of Persia.

Frosty: There is, indeed, one righteous Fatimid Caliphate and one apostate Abbasid Caliphate. And vanity titles are always fun. Vanity titles, Cretan taxes and Crashing

KoM: Name changes are good fun, but can we please try to keep primary titles different? It's one thing to have two different Romes and two different Caliphates in AARs, where it's clear who is being referred to, but when I get a popup saying "Evil servants of The Caliphate have assassinated your heir", I would really, really like to know which Caliphate to declare war on!

Frosty: Honestly KoM? Have we not left the days of first party assassinations behind us? :( As for the Caliphates, I dunno. Western/Eastern? Fatimid/Abbasid? Aegyptian/Persian? Righteous/Apostate?

Foels: The Caliphate/The REAL Caliphate

Frosty: Sounds like somebody's compensating... :p

Foels: Caliphate/BEST Caliphate

Jodokus: Caliphate/Califate :D

Frosty: Genius!

Foels: Stupid poo-poo head egyptian/awesome totally nice guys

So now you might get not one, but two Caliphates to cheer for! And both of them Shi'ite! :D
